So anybody had a shot at repainting this statue? Do You think it would be difficult to remove the paintjob without destroying the sculpt? The polystone from the sideshow weta line, was quite resilient to all kinds of heavy-duty paint stripping liquids, I presume this guy is made of the same stuff.

What did you have in mind theultimateqpa, he looks fine to me. :clap

Having said that, my un-hooded version did need a little retouching on his beard, but other than that, I didn't find anything wrong with it.

Be sure to post some pics, if you do some repainting. :stick

Best of luck!

Oh he definitely looks fine, but still there is much room for improvement.
The production paint job is never on par with the prototype photos on these statues. Many modelers could be commisioned to improve upon the paint-job, and make the statue truly unique. Also, i have always thought of myself, as not too shabby with a paintbrush as well:wink1:, so i would at least want to have a try with mine. Its just that i am not sure about the material this statue is built from. I would be afraid that some paint-stripping liquids could damadge the sculpt.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out for you, theultimateqpa.

You will post some pics for us, won't you?

Can anyone tell me what the actual size of the Aragorn maquette is not counting the base. I am trying to wrap my head around the size of these pieces.

jaws, don't know if you saw them but if you check back a few pages someone put him on one of the black weta bases. really helps get a feel for the size of the overall statue.

Yes, thanks, I saw those. I don't own any of the wetas so I am still a bit in the dark. I am on the fence about the Boromir maquette. It says it's 24" but there is a lot of base and flag pole there. if I knew the size of aragorn in inches i could have a better vision for boromir.

ah, cool. if no one had posted by the time i get home i will check to see how tall just the aragorn part is.

I know Bill [Bill59] took some comparison shots between the SSW and the SS maquette version , but I'm not sure if he took any measurements....though it's pretty safe to say Aragorn [character alone] falls between the 12"-13" range.

Just about 12" tall from foot to head (or as near as dam it) Jaws.

Hope that helps.

Aragorn maquette Reg or EX?????

Ok I am thinking of picking this up. My question is - Is the EX extra head worth the extra cash??? I can get the reg for a 100.00 cheaper.

I have looked at tons of photos. Sometimes the hooded aragorn likeness looks great and then other shots and angles - Not so much.

But the same goes for the Ex Head. Some shots are great. Others - Nah.

So I guess to those who own him. o you think it looks better hooded or no. In person Does it look like Aragorn with the hood on?

I know it's all about choice and preference. I think for myself I would prefer the hood on but ONLY if the likeness of Viggo is there.

Please give me your insight.

This should make it easier for you....the two sculpts are identical, other than the fact one is hooded and the other is not. Clearly the addition of the hood [and the subsequent shading that results from it] give the appearance at certain angles the two are not quite the same....but there is no difference sculpt-wise.

Re: Aragorn maquette Reg or EX?????

I would go with the EX if you want multiple options. I prefer that incase I get a wild hair to change things up. You can't go wrong with either but I would say get the Ex.

Re: Aragorn maquette Reg or EX?????

I've flipped on this issue a few times myself. I used the hooded portrait for the first couple of months and since then have gone with the Ex. Either way you can't lose. Here's some pics of mine (sorry, the first shot is a bit out of focus). :duff

Re: Aragorn maquette Reg or EX?????

I would agree with the other guys. Personally, the excl. [and the alternative display option] is the only way to go. Though I'm afraid only you can decide whether or not the excl. is worth the extra $100. :dunno
