Show needs to start building more ties to the Marvel characters and universe. They still got time for that but they shouldn't be afraid to keep themselves distant. It's cool to see things like Extremis and Marvel mentions but I feel the show could strengthen itself by having one of the MAIN CHARACTERS be a superhero.

A street-level hero like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, OR Daredevil would be an awesome addition and would let people know this IS Marvel.

I think that was one of the main criticisms behind Star Trek: Enterprise was that it tried to be TOO different from other Trek shows that by the time the show was canned, it had just started storylines and introduced characters that tied it better with the Trek Universe.

I watched Dexter. I know what a bad TV show is.

Roll your eyes all you want, the show didn't offer any other highlights, at all.

I don't expect a masterpiece at all but I at least expect episode 3 to be more interesting than ep1 or ep2 and that didn't happen.

Dexter took a lot longer for me to stop watching it, this is hanging by a thread in ep3.

GoT, TWD, BB etc etc had me HOOKED by episode 2.

In fact, said shows were fully formed masterpieces in comparison.

No, I didn't get the connection you were making and neither did Eli apparently. I honestly thought you were comparing us, because I posted a similar post to his in defense of IM3 and got ripped for it.

But originally I didn't even read his post past the first line. As soon as he said he hated LotR/Hobbit, I was done with his post.

Sounds like we're all guilty of the same kind of thing on occasion. Making generalities in defence of something we like (or in this case, don't quite like yet but remain 'open' to)

Anyway what he posted sounded a lot like what I posted and what Ween posted and those posts provoked a reaction in you that I expected Eli's post also would. Personally speaking you made me regret posting what I posted because the very stuff you were saying against me is the stuff I post in action figure threads - 'at least the ''complainers'' are on topic' etc etc. Which is true - people with legitimate criticisms of figures are only talking about the figures. The people that criticise those people are the ones taking it off topic.

Pretty good article on Cinemablend about the patience required by networks and viewers to develop new good TV shows, specifically referencing SHIELD. Well worth a read and brings up a lot of good points.

First few paragraphs:

Upon hearing the news that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. earned its back nine episodes -- a full season order -- at ABC, my first reaction was, "Good. That'll give us more time to get to know this show." Even with its post-premiere ratings slip, the series is still pulling in solid numbers for ABC, at least by comparison to the average drama series airing on the network. Last Tuesday's episode brought in 7.87 million viewers, which for comparison's sake, is above what Scandal was averaging in its first season, and more than a million viewers less than what Grey's Anatomy is averaging these days. In other words, SHIELD is doing fine right now. But it's only three episodes in, and I'm thinking ABC will be looking closely at the numbers going forward before they make any decisions on the fate of the series beyond Season 1.

Watching this week's episode of SHIELD, it occurred to me that I'm not fully on board with this series. Ok, I'm committed enough to tune in each week, and even to look forward to it on some level, and that's mainly due to being a fan of Joss & Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, and Agent Coulson as a character. But beyond the surface level of interest, I don't really care all that much about these characters. I like them. And I know who I'm supposed to care about and what I'm supposed to be watching for. And while I do that, I'm enjoying the stunts and cool special effects as each episode's story plays out. Coulson's dream team of young and pretty agents is coming together nicely, and we're all on the lookout to figure out where Skye's loyalty is, but beyond that, these characters are somewhere between strangers and acquaintances to me. So why's that an issue? I mean, after all, we're only three episodes in. Under normal circumstances, "mild but growing curiosity and interest" would be about the right stage of investment for a new series, wouldn't it?

The problem is, if I were watching the first season on Netflix over the last two weeks, I'd already be done with the season and I'd probably feel familiar and comfortable enough with the characters to say that i really like this show. I say this, obviously, with optimism that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be one of those shows that grows on me episode by episode, until I feel like I know each character personally and can't wait to watch each new episode. Whedon's series have a tendency to have that effect on me, but it takes time for that bond to form. His shows require an investment. That hasn't changed. What has changed is the way we watch TV shows. And it's occurred to me that the more TV shows I marathon through via Netflix or some other On Demand means of TV viewing, the more impatient I'm becoming as a viewer to either love a show or discard it and move on.

That's why I suggest a B or C-Level Marvel hero. One of the "street-level" guys. Maybe Luke Cage (Rock apparently wants this role) and Daredevil (just reverted back to Marvel) might be too big. But someone like Danny Rand (Iron Fist) or Jessica Drew (Spider-woman, Unless she's tied to the Spider-man rights) I feel is a plausible option.

There's also optional twists with characters like Tony Masters, who was originally a SHIELD agent and later went on to become the Taskmaster. Quasar/Marvel Boy Wendall Vaughn was a SHIELD agent before he became a Superhero. Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) is a SHIELD scientist in the Ultimate universe.

Agents of SHIELD would also be a good place to introduce Hank Pym (Giant-Man/Ant-man) if he isn't tied into the Ant-man movie already.

We'll wait and see. They have plenty of time.

Initially I would've suggested maybe Banner as Mark Ruffalo has a six picture deal with Marvel, but he's already burned up 2 between Avengers and IM3 and is definitely locked into Avengers 2, which leaves just 3 appearances left until he's renegotiating. Sam Jackson had a 9 picture deal after Iron Man. So between IM2, Avengers, Cap 2 and Avengers 2, and his appearance in the second episode (if they're counting that), he could potentially pop up a couple more times.

As far as ones that're tied to the Avengers that they could introduce on the show, you have Wasp, Vision (who I think we're watching), Wonder Man, Doc Sampson, Mockingbird, She Hulk (though not sure how they'd do that), etc.

For a big season finale they should do a Namor story (cliffhanger).

They already referred to an antimatter meteor off the coast of Miami. That's the type of thing Namor would misinterpret as an attack.

It would be a good time for Agent Colson to become Vision for the first time..
