Well, it used to be that some aspects of the storyline were grounded in current events. Nukes are still a big threat in the modern world, as it was during the time of the first MG game. I think Kojima has overestimated the impact of PMCs; or rather, the proliferation of PMCs caused by countries privatizing their own armies (and I still don't comprehend why any country would want to go in that direction).

It's good to know that Rising is set in an alternate reality. I'm still hoping that we'll eventually see an official "Rising" game from KojiPro, one of these days... .

It would have Snatcher Biggu Bawse in it.

The game is great! Definitely a breath of fresh air for Metal Gear, this review sums up the game perfectly:

Well guys I finally played this and I have to say I hate it. I really tried to like it but its got a lot of problems. The camera is complete crap, the AI is retarded, the characters are ugly, and the block system is easily exploitable. I dont think I am even going to beat it, which is a shame because the story is hilarious.

Maybe you're playing it wrong? Yes, the camera can be a pain untill you get used to it, but I'm not sure how the characters being "ugly" could damper your enjoyment of the game and the parry system adds some kinetic feeling to the game and I wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe you might give it another chance?

Anyway, I'm sorry you can't enjoy it. I thought is was some of the best action games I've ever played and the most repayable game of 2013.

Well I am glad you like it. I dont like the idea of being able to play a game wrong. The parry system is just too easy to use, you are pretty much always pressing forward and square so you are pretty much always deflecting anything thats thrown at you. The characters looking ugly certainly henders my enjoyment. MGS constantly has great art design and cool characters but in this game everyone looks stupid except Raiden and Jet Stream Sam.

Just curious, at what point did you call it quits? Yes, flicking the stick with the light attack button sounds like a cheat, and that's how I attack but in all honesty, I think it's the only way to go so much so that I think even Platinum Games forgotten to highlight that, as later enemies become more ruthless and you're forced to change tactics.

I just spent a few hours with it tonight. I stopped after beating the AI dog dude because the parry thing really got annoying there.
