If you paint the statue's legs to look like stockings it's not very far off from outfits she wore on the show.

IMO, it's a shame the Whedonverse doesn't pull in the reins as much as Marvel does to insure its product remains very representative of the lore.

And, again, there's loads of stuff out there if you need your collectibles to be more slavish to the source. I just don't understand the big deal.

That's really the point which counts the most, I think.

I wonder how fans would feel if the Giles statue featured him in a speedo.
Or, let's take sex out of the equasion, and produce a Spike statue where he's wearing a Lebron James jersey and he's holding a basketball.

Well said. I'm far from being a prude, for me It's more abut having a piece of merchandise be true to the spirit of the character, which this isn't.

In 2007, Sideshow got in similar trouble for their overly sexualized statue of Mary Jane from Spiderman. Nothing wrong if they'd captured Willow's real sexuality, but this is just the high-gloss, fake sort of sexuality that male sculptors are known for. Guess Sideshow didn't learn anything from the Mary Jane fiasco.

Faith looks ok, if only because Faith used that kind of high-gloss sexuality herself. But the statue's body looks more like the body of Jolene Blalock than Eliza.

I have selective memory? She wore the mini dresses with boots number on more than one occasion in season 2. Rewatch the season.

btw I don't disagree with whatever was mentioned but I am in the group, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. Complaining about it won't change things unfortunately. Complaining is not productive anyway.

I would imagine most of us gladly own statues (me included) which may appear, at least on the surface, to either objectify women or bank on a sexual appeal. As that sexual appeal has actually become embedded into the comics lore, it's all become plausible, if not expected. In these cases, it definitely is what it is. That's fine.

However, Willow's sexuality was never exploited to raise sales like Catwoman, Mystique, Black Cat, or Wonder Woman and so on. In essence, the Buffyverse never felt the need to go there with her. It's a shame that Sideshow believes it needs to.

I totally agree. But then comics industry is riddled with sexism, as is the collectors market by the looks of it.

There were 7 seasons hun. Buffy's outfits became a lot tamer as the years went on. And quite quickly too.

It's only the men who seem unwilling to represent the character as most people remember her. Her most iconic out fit being the black top and red leather pants of season 4.

Look at the comments on the Whedoniesque to see that other people are seeing the same problems with this as me.

Making generalizations is always bad. Just because you've seen a a lot of men want the statues the way they are, doesn't men all men agree.

I for one don't care much anymore. Not saying you don't have the right to complain, I'm saying I'm getting tired of doing so myself. So what if it doesn't cater to my needs and wants? (I'm a chick btw) This is for the audience that wants the flesh. And I have to tell you, I've sat drooling over the SMG statue sometimes. Yet, I don't have a _____. Mostly straight even.

Sorry hun, but the comics market as well as the collectors market is controlled by men for men. Women on the whole are ignored, so thats reality, not fiction on my part.

In many walks of life It's still a mans world you know.

Oh ta ever so kindly...: As someone told me up thread these figures are being aimed at the hard core collectors market that seems mostly consist of men. They're not aimed at females. If they were, well then I don't think they have looked quite like they turned out, do you?

But then looking at the market at the whole that shouldn't come as any great surprise to me I know.

I see what others and you are saying. And yes, I agree, the statues are probably aimed at a certain audience, but that hasn't nothing to do with what I'm saying, which is: it is rude to be sexist, which you are, when generalizing males and collectors who like/dislike the audience.

You might as well say that all men are violent, women can't drive, etc etc. Yours is a "light" form of sexism, but sexism nontheless.

I said in my previous post that I loved them and would order them. I want to step back. When I saw them before this, the faces looked great. However, I am not happy with how they look now. Maybe it's the photo, and I need to see more.

I do not like Willow, period. She is definitely not what I want in my collection. And Faith, if she has the same pose, no matter how great the face sculpt is, she's also not finding a place in my home.

I have to start cutting back now, on collectibles. I have no room left and the prices are just too high. So if they don't wow me, then I wont get them. I don't feel this need to complete a line anymore. Willow is way off. To me. If anyone thinks she's right on, then great. If you like her, wonderful, for you. For me, not so much.

Buffy on throne looks nothing like smg, but I really like the piece as a whole. I know that (before the paint) Willow and Faith were dead on. That's how I want them from now on, dead on. Buffy's face sculpt (IMO) isn't good enough to call her Buffy. But I love it anyways. I have a very big feeling that Faith and Willow (especially Will) will not be on my shelves. And not just because I have no room left.

Thankfully you don't speak for all women. If you feel it's not aimed at you, why not content yourself with the hundreds of other Buffy collectibles that are?

As I've said before I just don't understand the big deal. I'm not crazy about some of the violence-heavy Star Wars dios that Sideshow produces but I don't begrudge the people who do, or hang around pointing out why they're inappropriate. Sideshow can interpret the subject matter however they like. I have no obligation to buy every piece, so why shouldn't there be some that appeal to other tastes?
