This is for me the BEST PF SS have done so far!!
It's so iconic and as others have said on here once you sort out the clothing and get it right, this has a remarkable presence!
If I had the money I would be buying these as gifts for close friends it is such a brilliant representation of the legendary wizard!
I think this is the one that may become the grail of the PFs especially when The Hobbit comes out.

Maquettes = a hunk of plastic that can only look one way.
...for me personally.
Meh, each to their own, but i generally see the figures as toys and the PF's as expensive dolls, what with their 'real' clothing and all. Statues = sculpted art that captures the character as they should look, no seams or joints. And they're not made of plastic
Although i don't like the GTG maquette. Too super-hero looking and far too dramatic.

The portraits on a Hot Toys figure are sculptures. And a PF is a sculpture with clothes. Both are art. 1/6 scale can look dollish without careful futzing, but 1/4 scale fabric cloths will easily look much more real than sculpted clothes.
But like you said: 'to each their own.'
Now that I have my first PF figure I can say that I still prefer 1/6. That said... Gandalf PF kicks ass! And if I'm gonna have just one PF this is the one I want!
