MOAR:

Finally, the big one.

Mark Strong.

Sinestro.

I just returned from New Orleans, where GREEN LANTERN is deep in production set for release in June 2011. GREEN LANTERN has an unreal crew and cast. Grant Major – the Production Designer on LORD OF THE RINGS. Martin Campbell – the director of CASINO ROYALE. And Mark Strong from SHERLOCK HOLMES and KICK-ASS as Sinestro. And while I was there, there was a test on Sinestro. How he looks. How he moves. An amazing test.

Unfortunately, that test is top secret.

I can say with confidence, however, if you like Sinestro you’re going to love Mark Strong as Sinestro. Powerful, regal, intimidating. Mark clearly has done his research and embraced every aspect of what makes Sinestro one of the greatest, most complex characters within the vast, epic universe of the Green Lantern Corps. I think you’ll be as psyched as I am when you finally see him.

So that’s (some of) what we’ve got going on right now. Before I log off…what hero do you want to see in live action more than any other? Let us know and remember

ALL WILL BE WELL!

Geoff

While Geoff is probably towing the company line especially considering his new title, he is definitely getting me pumped for SDCC where a lot of these tests are supposed to be shown...

Interesting that they are subtile but also that the production crew must buy them....

New Balance has been licensed to create sneakers that are only available to the Green Lantern production crew; take a look at the images after the jump...

So far we've seen a plethora of set pictures, scene descriptions and logos for Martin Campbell's space adventure Green Lantern; but we'll have to wait a bit longer for any official movie-themed merchandising to be revealed. Until then, we've got a sneak peak at a pair of shoes every hardcore Green Lantern fan would want to get their hands on. Unfortunately, they won't be available to the general public:

The Camera Department has teamed up with New Balance to create a limited 300 pairs of Green Lantern shoes. It's a $145.00 per pair, fitted to your liking.

These shoes will never be available in stores, and once the 300 pairs are gone, they are gone.

This Movie Looks like A HUGE Marketing campaign. Any Rumors of the budget? Im gonna assume 170-200 Mill? Whats the biggest film Warners has done? With the marketing and all. I know Superman Returns was big, but what about The Dark Knight? This is definitly a Big Event Tentpole for WbDc...AND IM SO HYPE

I totally agree Kneel. But what has piqued my curiosity are the dailies. I wanna know what on earth the studio saw that wowed them to the point of green lighting the sequal so soon. I hope they bring a daily to SDCC because inquiring minds wanna know!

Green Lantern was officially cleared at a $150 Million Dollar Budget. To put it into Superhero perspective: Fantastic Four was $100 Million, Iron Man 1 was $140 Million, Watchmen was $150 Million, The Dark Knight was $185 Million, X-Men: The Last Stand was $210 Million and Spider-Man 3 was $258 Million.

Rumors are that the budget was raised a bit due to the forced move from Sydney to New Orleans to compensate for the higher cost of filming in the US but WB still claims the $150 budget.

That of course doesn't take into account the marketing budget.

A representative from Sony Imageworks confirmed that a teaser trailer would be ready by Comic-Con and that it would most likely according to him "steal the show"

An excellent find Mike!! & PLEASE PLEASE plaster any & all teasers from the con on this site as soon as you find them.

like I said, I'm very.........interested to put it mildly to know what the studio knows. & THEY KNOW SOMETHING!! but what? what made them go ape sh1!!t to make the 2nd film? hmmm.

& wasn't that reporter cute......call us "young fans" LOL. As if! But she was very much correct in telling all the lil mommies to get in line quick, because I'll be there.....in brightest day (shift) & blackest night (shift) to snatch up all those yummy GL MMs before they can lay their chubby lil digits all over them.

After all kids don't love toys the right way. so let the lil monsters destroy the left overs :lol

wow spiderman really cost 258 million! no wonder Marvel took it so hard when it bombed.

SM3 made $336 mil domestic, $554 worldwide.

Hadn't been following production n this because I was a little bummed about Reynolds as Hal but I am excited about Mark Strong.

OK, now go fact check what the opening reciepts were. Also I believe major studios will buy ass loads of their own movie tickets (with cash) & then donate them to what ever bleeding heart dot org non profit groups jump up 1st on a google search.

a studio will spend or should I say sacrafice 10 of millions to keep a movie like S3 from appearing on the surface like the UBBER flop it was. I use to do a lot of Casino Security here in Atlantic City & on occasion the Casinos would do something simmiler.

Its call "coin drops" (thats before the slots went coinless). The way its done is in the slot machine there is a hopper (its the thing that spits out coins when you win). Well all the coins in the hopper are dumped down a different part of the machine were the coins go that a player drop in to play (no they don't go in the hopper).

The state of NJ get 8% of all profit. So when the casino's stock is starting to slip do to poor patronage the casino will dream up some B.S. excuse to either clean or move slot machines, & to do this you must 1st drop all the coins out the hopper. So even tho the coin box is nice & full of coins & even tho these coins get collected later in the week & recorded as INCOME.....the sad fact is, their was very little revenue.

BUT, its a trick that keeps the reputation of the Casino in tact & the stock from plunging. So when studios buy huge block of their own tickets.....its the same as a bogus coin drop.

Well, the numbers are the numbers. How does one "fact check" your theory?

well how did you get your 336M & 554M figures? I would assume use the same source. or how about a good old fashion search engine. I mean your the one who clams S3 was not a flop.

Worldwide was close to 900 million dollars, so while SONY made money on the film, Marvel which sold the rights to Spiderman during their time close to bankruptcy gets a very small % of the profits. While Spiderman 3 was not a good movie by most standards, it still made quite a bit of money.

Okay.
I got those numbers from Boxofficemojo.com. And actually I quoted it wrong. It's 336 US, 554 foreign. That's $890 million worldwide.
I tried to search for some resource about the studio buying up tickets to inflate box office stats and found nothing. Also nothing about SM3 being regarded as a flop, financially, at all.
It's not me claiming SM3 wasn't a flop.

And for the record, I don't care whether it was or wasn't. I just didn't understand your first statement, and I was curious to see if you could back up your theory.

I think the power players over at the WB/DC empire see somthing in Green Lantern that they know is gold. Its not only a 2011 Tentpole but also a big deal to them. They have GL 1&2!, Batman 3 and Superman! and A flash movie right? They gotta show up Marvels Avengers string of films. Its gonna be a crazy next couple of years in the movies.

Although there are sites claiming its a fake.

I can't believe no set pics of Blake have surfaced yet... have they Mike?

Not in "costume" although its plain clothes, I'd consider her with her brunette locks in costume. There was one the slipped out a month or so ago but she was blonde, the pic of Reynolds walking in his grey CGI suit has her dog in it so she has been on set, I think its just that the photohounds don't really give her much attention. The rumor is that she is wearing a black wig instead of actually changing her hair color so when she isn't filming she isn't in it.
