Can't believe the movie is already 25 years old. Still my favorite live action Batman movie and my 2nd favorite Batman movie overall.

To help mark Warner Bros. Entertainment (WBE) and DC Entertainment’s milestone 75th anniversary of DC Comics’ popular Batman character, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) will release Batman 25th Anniversary Two-Disc Edition, a new Blu-ray™ edition debuting November 11 (at $24.98 SRP) in the studio’s distinctive new sleek Diamond Luxe collector-style packaging. With its state-of-the-art sophisticated and durable design, the new packaging is perfect for those wishing to add this edition to their home libraries. Also included is Batman: The Birth of the Modern Blockbuster -- a look at the phenomenal marketing, extensive merchandising and franchise foresight that set the template for the next 25 years of tentpole pictures.

WBHE and DCE’s year-long celebration, befitting the world’s most popular Super Hero, will boast new products from WBE and DC Entertainment in numerous areas – comics, TV, Interactive Entertainment, Consumer Products and more. There is a new commemorative 75th anniversary Batman logo and an exclusive “Cape/Cowl/Create” art exhibit, featuring 20 contemporary artists’ interpretations of The Dark Knight’s iconic cowl headpiece and cape from the new Batman: Arkham Knight video game. Various other events are taking place throughout the year.

In addition to releasing Batman 25th Anniversary Two-Disc Edition, WBHE will also feature the highly anticipated release of the 1960s Batman: The Complete Television Series for the first time ever. Other new home entertainment releases include animated films Son of Batman and Batman: Assault on Arkham.

In announcing the Batman 75th anniversary initiative in March, WB Chairman and Chief Executive Kevin Tsujihara noted, “Batman is an incredibly important property with multi-generational appeal across all of the Studio’s businesses, and we’re proud to celebrate this milestone anniversary. From billion-dollar blockbuster films to TV, home entertainment, video games and consumer products, The Dark Knight continues to resonate with audiences worldwide and rightfully deserves his place as a global pop culture icon for the ages.”

About the Movie

In 1989, director Tim Burton breathed new life into one of the most complex and intriguing characters in popular culture. Burton cast off the 1960s camp depiction of the Dark Knight and launched for Warner Bros. one of the most popular comic book film series ever. Batman was the top-grossing movie that year and subsequently became a global phenomenon.

Tim Burton’s vision and Michael Keaton’s performance as the Caped Crusader combine perfectly to capture Gotham City’s sinister atmosphere and Batman’s brooding nature. Jack Nicholson stars in a memorable performance as the maniacal Joker and Kim Basinger is Vicki Vale, the beautiful and resourceful photojournalist desired by both men. Featuring songs by Prince and a score by Danny Elfman, Batman won the 1990 Oscar® for Best Art Direction/Set Decoration (Anton Furst and Peter Young).

Wow, I've been checking regularly for some update or announcement about the 25th anniversary release of Batman, quite a let down. At least I don't need to buy it again. I already have this movie and Returns three times. My original VHS from when I was a kid, the DVD and then blu ray.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

Seriously. This makes me sad.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

Do not want.

Will watch new documentary on youtube. I'm sure WB's got a vault of goodies like deleted scenes, never before seen pics, etc. Dunno why they wouldn't pull those out for the 25th. Oh well.

It's too bad the Batman movies (all 7 in the franchise) never got something as comprehensive as LOTR. I want some BTS stuff with Nicholson and Ledger. You can tell those two ****ers had a lot of improv and a bunch of takes, show some of that material. Then again, the features on the 2005 DVDs and Blu rays weren't too bad.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

No, that's part of what makes this seem so ridiculously weak sauce. You have the 20th Anniversary Edition, where it was loaded with stuff, to this, where it's loaded with...the same stuff and a featurette about marketing? Yeah, I'll take those deleted scenes any day of the week. I wish they'd just make some comprehensive Batman 75 box set that's loaded with features, deleted scenes, and commentaries for the original series and the Nolan Trilogy. At least, that's what I'd do if I ruled the universe.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

I know a few guys on other message boards that are sitting on a gold mine of pics and resources for Batman 1989 that trickle out every so often (Sallah has found a few goodies too on his 1989batman site). I know some have mentioned wanting to put out an anniversary book together with the new goodies but the only obstacle in publishing is . . . Warner Bros.

I wanna see if the original intent with the 200th anniversary parade with the ghastly Joker statue unveiling was ever filmed. I want to see a rough cut of the "twist" where some Gothamites notice that the bills the Joker is throwing at the crowd are fake . . . and all have his face on it (which was set up at the museum and play up his vanity, along with the statue). I want to see the rough cut of Batman "falling" to the cement and the reveal where they find Knox knocked out with the cape and cowl draped over him (with Bruce Wayne, unmasked, running off into the night). Who knows what else. Did they originally shoot the Cathedral without Vicki Vale? Did they originally shoot Knox getting gunned down as originally intended? What about the scene that Keaton was talking about where they shot him mentally preparing to be Batman with a transition of Bruce "becoming" Batman? Batman vs. Bob the goon (which was clearly filmed and replaced with the swordsman instead). The original Axis Chemicals sequence that they shot before they had to redo it? The original ending with "kids playing Batman"?

Oh well, maybe 30th anniversary.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

Nah, more like in another 25 years for the 50th anniversary holodisc.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

Wow, I'd not heard of a lot of that stuff DiFabio. Would definitely love to see the fight with Bob the Goon. It all sounds gold. There's clearly so much stuff they could go into, seems such a waste to not include it for the fans. What a wasted opportunity. 25th anniversary of the film plus 75th anniversary of the character, this would have been the perfect time to release all that stuff.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

I still remember being surprised in the theater that the dollars dropped on the crowd didn't have Joker's face on them. It seemed so specifically foreshadowed.

Re: 25th Anniversary of Tim Burton's Batman (1989).... Contest & Fan Compilation Vide

Yeah and I'm sure they filmed it. Some things you've got to wonder why they cut out some of that stuff.

To their credit, they did show the "is it Halloween" deleted scene with the little alley girl Batman saves, but I could see why something like that would get scrapped.
