just bought this game on fri and downloaded the classic skin packs, but don't know how to get them working.

Edit - never mind, I misread the above post.

Nothing to see here. Move along, move along...

Finally got this game for only $26.23 on Ebay. Not bad since Gamestop has it used for $54.00. Overall it is great fun but the one thing I miss is the ability to move around the environment in three dimensions. There are some really amazing looking backgrounds that just BEG to be explored. It was a bit of a surprise to find that after Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon and DC vs MK that Mortal Kombat went back to being a 2-D side scrolling fighting game. I hope that if an MK 10 comes about we get back that 3rd dimension back.

I think going back to 2-D fighting made this game back to being great. I got all MK games that ever came out. With DA, Decption and Armageddon I honestly feel the downfall was the mechanics of the game. They all had some cool ideas and gimmicks but looking back I feel the execution was bad. MK vs DC was almost there with the fighting. I really do not mind if future releases are 3-D only if they can translate and carry over the fighting mechanics of this one. Again, MK vs DC and this one has a lot of similarities so I know if they work hard it can be done.

Also I think most hardcore MK fans never accepted the 3-D versions because it lost the feel of the originals.

Do anyone remember Mace The Dark Age or even War Gods? I have to admit, i enjoyed Mace.....

Those games that you mentioned in your post are the worst in the
franchise and if the latest MK was also 3D I would not have purchased it.
MK = 2D or nothing. The latest addition IMO is a work of art.
Ed Boon finaly woke up with that one...

:goodpost::exactly:

My thoughts exactly. The biggest problem with fighting games is the hit detection. When on a 2D plane the hit detection makes sense and can be tweaked to what is expected. I don't believe a 3D fighting game ever gets the hit detection correct where it feels right. The only games I believe that ever got 3d fighting to work have been Tekken and Soul Calibur and those games have beaten their own horses so dead that it's mush now. Heck, Soul Calibur 5 is still the EXACT SAME ____ING GAME! :slap

Old MK fan here. Haven't played in years, but see they went back to 2D fighting style. Thinking of picking this up. What is difference between this and Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition? Any advice which to buy? Thanks!

The Komplete Edition comes with all of the DLC, which includes new characters, classic skins, and fatalities. It also comes with some other stuff like a soundtrack download.

As for which to buy, it depends. If you insist on buying new, just get KE, since it's only like $10-15 more than MK9, and if you're going to get the DLC anyway, it will save you money. How much, I'm not sure - I forget how much the DLC in total costs, someone else would probably know that.

However, you can get MK9 used for like $20, so if you're willing to go used, the original is much cheaper. Even factoring in DLC, a used MK9 plus all the DLC is much cheaper than KE.

And as someone who loved MK1 and 2, but lost interest after that, I can assure you that this version is fun as hell, and my favorite fighting game in who knows how long.

Don't forget to add another $10 if you buy it used to pay for the online pass. Meaning if you going to play online with other friends, you need the pass code that comes with brand new games only. If you by it used, great chance it will not have the code and you have to pay $10 to activate online fighting.

True, I forgot about that. Mostly because I never played online, since I knew I would get decimated.

Thanks for the info guys! :hi5:

I think I'll look for a used copy of MK9. I have no desire to get my @ss handed to me online by a 12 year old. :lol

Yeah, I play L4D online, and that gives me more than enough of my fill of screeching kids and guerilla commando adults.

On the bright side, this is not one of those "there's not much to do single player" fighting games. Between Story Mode and the Challenge Tower, there is a TON of single player stuff, not to mention the standard fighting towers.

Man!

What took you so long haha!

It's one of the best MK games out there.

Fast pace / blood splattering / fist punching / leg kicking / bone crushing / gore-festing fatalities.

Awesome combo attacks, characters and wicked graphics.

WIN WIN!

I played mk9 on release and it was awesome, the online for the first fee months was laggy as hell. Lag plus being a noob meant a lot if losses for me :yess:

This game is a f#^#$% pain in the arse and you wanna know why.. well where do i begin..

for starters when you wanna move forward and back you have to move the left stick left or right, but if the stick is slightly off, your character will be doing summersults back and forth making you look like an asshat. now there is an alternative to the left stick for movement and that's the button that looks like a cross. but it's a real pain in the arse to use, especially for moves that require you do do half circle's. in fact using the ps3 controller for this game is a pain in both your your thumb muscles so you pretty much need an arcade stick that will run you a hefty $150 and that's if.. if you can find one.
