Hot Toys Iron Man Fade Issue

My Mark IV is not faded. It has been on display. I have seen another that was kept in the packaging, and it had faded underwear. For what it's worth.

Alex Teo of toyhaven.blogspot said he regreted returning and keeping some of his figs in the box. the storage detriorated the rubber. could be affecting paint as well. or paint on the rubber.

It's always possible that the plastic trays the figures come in release gasses over time, like some other plastics. I think the best way to keep your figures is actually standing, outside the package, so nothing is touching up against any soft plastic or rubber parts. (and of course in a cooler, non-humid area with no direct sunlight or lamps close to them) I don't even use the stands because I fear possible contact damage.

I'm not sure how many of these are fading. It just baffles me because people say it could be dust or sun or even temperature but I've had all mine since release and none of mine have faded. I have them displayed on an open shelf (they get dusted though), 10ft x 6ft windows only 6ft away (but not direct sunlight) and it gets humid/freezing in here depending on the outside temperature.

Was taken back in March-ish, I just checked them and the only thing I noticed is the Mark III BD's crotch is starting to pink I think. Maybe I'm just lucky but I don't feel like dust or temperature has anything to do with it.

Red is the easiest color to fade. I had red glass that went clear in sunlight. Just be careful.

Does anyone have problem with the Iron man Mark III BD exclusive crushed helm as well? When i recieved mine, there were already red stains on the plastic covers, my fingers were even stained with it. My guess is the paint didn't allow enough time to really let it dry in the factory.

The last time i checked my IM figures in their boxes were in July and they seemed alright, no fades. I dunno if this helps but i always take out the batteries & wrapped plastic food wrappers around them entirely then kept it back into the box.

Found the post from the guy that used the Gundam marker to fix his fading problem!

Here goes....... only pics after customization

It is very simple. Just get some ink from your gundam paneling marker on your fingers and start smearing away on the abs. Try to do it evenly to avoid black blotches. if smear is not evenly spread try using a little cooking oil to even out the smear. The ink is removable with alcohol so no worries if u make a mistake.

Do a few layers of smears to get the desired tone and you will have your mark III back in tip top condition. (note i did lose the scuff marks on the abs when doing this)

I've checked both my Mark IV & my Mark VI and they are not faded at all and they are kept in their boxes. BUT, the Mark IV did have a little red paint on the white tray that the figure comes in. So apparently it is not inert and indeed is having a reaction with the paint. I wrapped the figure in tissue paper and returned him to his temporary tomb.

So make sure you guys either remove the white tray or keep the figure from touching it somehow.

Nice! Is tissue safe to use as a barrier from the white tray?

This phenomenon is really strange. None of my Iron Man figures have ever faded, then again they are all on display, posed once and never touched again so that may be the answer but the fact it's happening really throws me.

This is very intersting in terms of what is causing it, it seems some fade while displayed and others don't, same situation for being left in the box.

Maybe its a batch issue

I wonder if it's just an issue with that type of plastic and the metallic paint as it looks like the plastic isn't holding the pigment component of the paint.

The crappy part about that would be that they might all eventually end up the same way over time. I checked my original Mark III today and it is showing signs of fading in both the shorts & the abs but it's not as pronounced as I've seen in others pics and it took a long time for it to become noticeable. I've seen others that started fading some time ago.

Sorry for resurrecting this but anyone figure out whats the best color to repaint the Mark III BD abs? I noticed that the Mr. Color #47 is great for the Mark IV but the Mark III is slightly darker by maybe a shade. Would it matter?

My Iron Man rubber part has become faded, tried to remove the IM neck rubber, accidentally removed it but donno how to put it back.

Anyone can teach the right way to remove and put back the neck rubber ?

I posted a while back that I believed that the discoloring may be due to the silica pack included with the figures. My displayed figures are not discolored; however, my sealed MISB figures that include the silica pack all have pink rubber parts.

I just purchased a brand new sealed Mark III (clean) and noticed it did not come packaged with a silica pack. The rubber sections are just as dark as the hard armored parts. I still believe my assumption about the silica pack more than ever now.
