Guess I’m that fool who enjoyed the heck out of it with my two sons. I must be a fool because I not only enjoyed it more the second time, but the joy of talking about it with them, laughing together, and watching them relive the movie with their imaginations is far better than bemoaning and name calling those who see it as fun entertainment.

You fool!!!!!!

Kidding

I'd like to know which fool thinks that just because they dislike a movie and a large number of professional YouTube trolls dislike it no one else could possibly like it...is the fool who thinks that REALLY that gullible....

There's a case that certain YouTube reviews express feelings that coincide with the viewer's. But there's also the tendency in some to be lead by certain YouTube 'celebrities'. And there's a lot of self-proclaimed YouTube 'celebrities' out there looking to boost their views by being deliberately outrageous and over the top.

A movie is a personal journey, and can bear rewards if you take that journey. You can't hate an entire fim as long as there's something in it that you do like.

It took me many years to finally decide to take the PT journey, to see what good there might be in them. Those three episodes are always going to be marred every time Jar Jar appears or a Battle Droid speaks, so that journey is never going to be an easy one.

TFA and TLJ are more in line with the OT, even though they don't tell the stories I wanted from them.

Great post...a lot of seemingly nice and well adjusted folk seem to enjoy this film...you were probably too busy spending time with your family to sink the last 8 years of your life into a Cheeto dust covered thousand page fan fiction script so naturally you were not disappointed into blind rage when the actual film did not match your "masterpiece." :)

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Think of all the contradictory and exaggerated headlines and pieces of news that bombard the average person's mind on any given day.

Who actually audits box office figures for movies? Over the past 4 years, these figures seem like nothing more than but made up numbers used for PR. In fact, every big movie seems to have more and more ridiculous gains and losses, whether it's Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor 3 or Blade Runner and the Justice League. Most of what we see churned out from Hollywood is fake. The people are fake (as we've seen with all these scandals), the entertainment is fake, it wouldn't surprise me if the numbers are fake as well. As far as box office goes, it's "Hollywood Accounting". First they claim to have made billions/millions on any given project, but when it comes to tax time, all their movies "lose money". Seems like the reported box office figures and actual tax reporting are two different things.

When you have your director tweeting **** like this,

"When there’s a big movie I want to see I’ll usually wait till the third weekend. The energy’s just right by weekend 3. Gentle knowing nod to my fellow third weekenders."

Or Disney forcing theaters on how and when they need to show TLJ in their theater.

Or regular showings being dropped in favor of the more expensive 3D showings.

Or a bunch of news outlets coming to this movie's rescue against valid criticisms.

You know something's up.

Everything is smoke and mirrors. Everyone tries to project an image or feeling of themselves or their brand being better than it actually is.

Ohhh it’s good to be back.

Now do you think all of that smoke and mirrors is just innocent corporate capitalist amoral manipulation at trying to sell the brand to you and your kids and create a dependency on their products all in an attempt to absorb as much of a percentage of your disposable income as possible...

OR

Do you believe there are darker subliminal ulterior geosociopolitical motivations at play here in an attempt to alter the fabric of this nation via a false sense of honoring the family unit.

In other words DiFabio-san i’m simply asking you this...

Are you a member of the tin foil hat wearing club or not lol

Wasn't that just SNIKT? :lol

The two main areas building expectation would have been the novels now classified as 'Legends', prior to production beginning on the ST; and after the release of TFA the expectations created by questions raised in the film.

The question now is whether there were red herrings in TFA, or whether there were red herrings in TLJ instead, i.e., Kylo lying to Rey, and Rey receiving false images from the Cave of Darkness.

It's open ended for JJ continue.

I think what people are implying is its not a good Star Wars movie even though it might be "entertaining" for the masses. Just Like Terminator 3 was entertaining but a complete pile of **** in the Terminator series. People can be entertained or like anything from people making fart jokes to high end British humor but I think quality story telling in the Star Wars setting is what people disliked. You could take TLJ and had no Tie fighters, no Luke no "laser: swords and people would have still been entertained but that doesn't make it a good Star Wars movie. Yes family time is 1000 times more important what people on the internet think about a movie.

Hey I liked Bright and most people hate it , was it entertaining yes , was it good story telling , NO

My kids didn't like the movie. But we do bond and have family time laughing at all the funny stuff in this thread such as Lego Kylo with moobies, the milk creature toy, and the black series FX broom amongst all the rest. Classics. We also have fun coming up with ridiculous Episode 9 plots such as having the resistance seek out the help of the Gungans, having General Jar Jar show up, step in a poop or two along the way, and ultimately have a meaningful scene with Kylo reminiscing about Annie and how cool he was thus bringing him back to the light. So Last Jedi is good for families on both sides.

If I had to pick the single best argument made against the existence of this movie it would have to go to JAWS, remember i’m condensing a ton of complaints from many members here into just one potent complaint on why this movie just doesn’t work.

Here goes.

The movie is just spinning its wheels in mud not getting anything major accomplished all that noise and for what, Luke dying just to give the resistance more time to escape the FO yet again.

The movie was about the slowest chase in cinematic history?

Ok there I said something bad about the movie.

At least JAWS will acknowledge the parts that work.

Agreed. Same with a lot of posting on this forum. Folks get more attention by being outrageous, so we aren't always getting honest opinions.

Difabio makes a great point about smoke and mirrors in the film industry. Hard to wade through all the BS to get a real picture of what's going on. I have no clue what's really going on with WB, for example.

If you compare it to the chase of the Falcon in Empire it's sad.

Please show me any capitalist, socialist or communist corporation not dabbling in smoke and mirrors or government or municipal agency for that matter.

I mean DiFabio is a master of smoke and mirrors lol

.

Made worse if you find the whole set-up of Resistance VS First Order completely unsatisfying in the first place due to how repetitious it is and how it undermines every victory in the OT.

Well made points! I would agree that if you enjoyed Bright no one can tell you that you should not or even worse that you are some kind of Philistine or sucker for liking what you like...art, cinema, food, music...these are all personal choices...I probably own every non fiction Star Wars book written, love all of the films, read most of the fiction, seen every episode of every animated series, and thought TLJ was brilliant...once again it's up to each individual viewer to determine if it is good for themselves...there is no objective mass opinion that gets to have final say.

I knew from the first 30 seconds of the opening crawl in TFA that the poor exposition of the 32 year gap was going to hurt this new trilogy the exact same way I knew from the opening crawl of TPM when I read Taxation of Trade Routes that the PT was going to be in trouble.

Taxation of ****ing Trade Routes really Lucas.

Which leads me right back to this again and again...

TFA/TLJ > PT

Yes the PT have a more narrative straight line where A leads to Z in a semi constructive purposeful manner, for now anyways that might change if IX brings clarification, but christ o mighty is it painful to travel from A to Z with the PT.

See I am in the same boat as you with the books, toys ,etc and I didnt like TLJ. I can see what people liked though and I wouldnt want to take that away from them, as I have said before I am a bit jealous of the people that enjoyed it.

Interestingly I can also see what put people off it...all hyperbole aside even as I was watching and enjoying it I could immediately see where it was going to be losing folks...

It looms like a shadow over everything they've built here.
