I don't think thickening the neck makes it look long, but there's something about how it sits on the torso that - to my eyes - looks like it's just sitting on top. Not that I'm Pennyworth, but it looks to me like it's heavy-duty parcel string like you would find at a post office. Or at 10x the amount in the scrapbooking section of a craft store!
