Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Hmmm, sounds familiar.
Spoiler Spoiler:

I always thought she had super natural powers and the agility of a cat in that film, hence her skills and ability to get shot several times because of her 9 lives. Some people don't see it that way, but I do, and it makes a bit more...sense. If that makes any sense :lol

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I'd have taken Enchantress and her "bro" out completely. Worst parts of the movie.

Also Amanda Waller's idea of putting together a team to fight something like the "next Superman" is pretty stupid. What would Harley do against Faora? Acrobat her to death? What would Deadshot do to someone like Zod? Shoot him to death? What would Diablo do to Superman? Burn him to death? Everyone else like Croc, Boomerang and Katana weren't even "meta human" in their abilities.

Since the beginning, the trailers and marketing made it seem like it was going to be the Suicide Squad on a smaller scale, top secret mission (not against CGI demons and a witch Lady with portals and other crap) with the Joker and his men being the threat against their mission as the antagonist.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, WB/DC need to stop with these Armageddon climaxes where the world or city hangs in the balance. Please, no more dictators who gave the trigger to the trigger man who plans on blowing up the city with a fusion reactor anyway. Please, no more huge space ships threatening to terraform the planet. No more dumb CGI creatures threatening to kill everyone in the city while the gov. wants to nuke it. Please no more portals in the sky with demons and witches wrecking havoc. It's bad enough we're going to endure this kind of crap with Steppenwolf and his CGI minions and mothership resurrected Superman, so please, for the solo Batman film, take things down a notch. If you could make the setting smaller, like Arkham Asylum/Die Hard, Dredd 3D levels, that would be great. No more nukes, bombs and macguffins please. People don't need a fireworks display (or the threat of one) as the climax of every comic book movie.

Your budget will thank you.

Batman Die Hard would be amazing.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Fair enough points DiFabio. Enchantress was basically Waller's "Ultron." And the whole "beam of light going into the sky/portal" thing while alien armies attack is SO overdone.

I concede that Suicide Squad wasn't a great movie (to put it kindly.) And I wouldn't just give a blind recommendation that any given person see it. But I am reminded of how some of my friends reacted to Army of Darkness back in the day. It came out when I was in college and I went to see it with a few dorm buddies and they LOVED it. Laughing and cheering the whole time. And I sat there thinking, okay, this movie isn't particularly scary, it isn't particularly exciting, the character development is basically nil and the writing is just goofy. It just wan't my thing. But my friends loved it and were referencing it and quoting it for weeks on end. I think SS is a lot like that (with me on the side of the dopes who liked it this time.)

I dug it. A lot won't. Maybe most won't, who knows. But I do think it has a ton of great moments that people are unfairly dismissing and an acceptable amount of "superhero movie logic" that some aren't giving it enough credit for.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Assault on Arkham was much better as far as utilizing the team and showing their actual skills not only in battle, but in other ways to accomplish their mission. In SS squad the team is literally together fighting H2H combat to get from point A to point B....zero strategy...just standing around.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

One thing about the infected soldiers they were fighting is that yes they were just more faceless goons as we're accustomed to seeing in these types of films but at least it gave the team permission to rip the heads off their opponents and shred their bodies while maintaining the necessary rating. If they were fighting humans it would have been a bunch of cutaways like that crappy scene where Ledger "killed" Michael Jai White.

Did you like Leto's Joker and how he was used in the film?

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Friend of mine said "It's great, it's a comic book movie, don't look too deep into it"
To which I replied
"It's a film regardless of its source material - it should work as a film. It shouldn't get off easier just because it's a "comic book movie". The Dark Knight was a CBM too but it was an excellent piece of cinema in it's own right. Thats like saying "well the chicken is raw in the middle but the chef is new so I'll say it's nice and eat it anyway just because I wasn't expecting much"

What did ur friend say after this

I did. And I honestly didn't think I would. Leading off with him brainwashing Harley in prison and then immediately torturing her as payment for freeing him really established an unsettling foundation for him IMO. He kind of reminded me of the captivating but still terrifying murderers from 90's serial killer movies like Kalifornia, Natural Born Killers, Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs, etc.

DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Hmmm, sounds familiar.
Spoiler Spoiler:

You know what, I can see Suicide Squad fitting in perfectly to Burton's universe since they don't bother explaining anything and people can do things just because.

Croc's origin is almost exactly the same as Penguin's :lol

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Here's a list of the deleted scenes.

https://www.screengeek.net/2016/08/...scenes-suicide-squad-reveal-much-darker-film/

“In early cuts, the movie’s opening detailed June Moon’s possession by Enchantress in real tome. Reshoots reshuffled the scene to be later in the movie in flashback form in favour of a new opening centered on Deadshot.”

“Deadshot in the prison cell, watching the rain fall and thinking about his daughter.”

“El Diablo observing the flame of a lit match, before putting it out due to his vow to no longer use his powers.”

“El Diablo being escorted to a training center by being placed in a tube that fills with water to quel his flames, and then unceremoniously dropped onto the ground.”

“Early interviews showed Captain Boomerang’s racism and sexism, but the movie is light on examples of such behaviour, which have apparently been deleted. Most of them were reportedly directed at Katana, to whom Boomerang is attracted to.”

“Early reports indicated more backstory for Killer Croc, revealing that he entire life as a social outcast due to his physical appearance and has convinced himself that he is beautiful in his own way. Croc crossed paths with Batman while working as muscle-for-hire for numerous Gotham’s crime bosses, while secretly planning to take over one day. There were also scenes displaying his affinity for making sculptures out of discarded materials. Aside from jokes about Croc viewing himself as ‘beautiful,’ one of these were retained in the final cut.”

“Also deleted was a scene where he becomes sick at the helicopter escort to Midway City, throws up half-digested pieces of goat, and then eats them again, disgusting the nearby Navy Seals.”

“Early cuts reportedly included a passing reference to Slipknot being serial rapist, likely to further paint him as unsympathetic to the audience ahead of his own death.”

“More scenes of Rick Flag and June Moon’s romantic relationship, including him reading the files of the Suicide Squad recruits after Waller delivers them to him.”

“Another scene where Flag and Moon are out on a date.”

“Extended scene of Joker interrogating Captain Griggs, including the line, “I can’t wait to show you my toys,” which was in every trailer, but was removed from the movie.”

“Joker and his men escaping after shooting up a restaurant. Harley, who is already affiliated with the Joker, follows them on a motorcycle and intercepts their car. Joker bangs his head against the glass in frustration.”

“Joker and Harley then get into a fight, which ends with Harley pointing a gun at Joker’s head. Joker sweet-talks Harley into lowering the gun, charming her, then backhands her across the face. Afterwards he sweet-talks her again and they kiss.”

“Extended Ace Chemicals scene where Harley jumps into the chemicals. More bits of dialogue from Joker.”

“Extended Batmobile chase scene with more interaction between Joker and Harley. One of the examples, presented in all the trailers, is the Joker punching the roof of his car.”

“Harley using her baseball bat as a mock gun to play shoot at invisible foes.”

“Extended scene of Joker breaking into the nano-bomb manufacture facility to arrange for Harley’s neck-bomb to be disabled.”

“More interactions between Harley and Boomerang. Early cuts apparently included her really disliking him despite growing affectionate to all the other members of the squad.”

“Extended bar scene with Harley taking everyone’s orders. Deadshot calls for a shot, Katana wants whiskey, Croc and Boomerang settle for beer, Harley asks Diablo wants and he prefers water which she jokes, “is a good idea.” The scene was featured in the trailers, but in the movie it cuts directly to Deadshot’s speech about them all almost pulling the mission off.”

“Removed several scenes with the Joker to repaint his relationship with Harley as more loving rather than abusive.”

“Joker and Harley get into an argument after he rescues her in the hijacked helicopter. In early cuts he reportedly pushes her out to kill her, then the helicopter gets shot down. This was apparently reworked into the helicopter getting shot down first and Joker pushing her out to save her.”

“Joker returns during the final battle in the subway station, face half-burnt from the helicopter crash, which apparently leads to a brief altercation with the Squad. He calls for Harley to escape with him but she refuses for once in order to help her friends, and the Joker escapes after throwing a live grenade at the group to cover his own escape.”

I prefer the more abusive Joker and Harley relationship...but that's just me.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I'm sure it's because it's a comic film where they're really banking on teens and preteens showing up. Surprised they didn't go the other route after Deadpool though.

Agree completely regarding the city scale destruction, film would have benefitted massively from a smaller setting.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Same thing happened to Batman Forever. WB stripped it of the original Arkham intro, the darker stuff, the psychological aspects involving Wayne, a huge amnesia/motivation subplot, etc. to make it a simple, kid/teenage friendly popcorn blockbuster that was easy for mainstream audiences to digest.

Who knows though, I don't think the Ultimate version of BvS is much better (or different) than the theatrical version so who knows if that's the case with Suicide Squad. Sounds like the only thing an Ultimate or Directors' Suicide Squad cut would improve is the Joker, Harley and a couple of other characters. You're still going to have Enchantress in there, just like Doomsday will always be in BvS.

I do wonder what the original intended ending for Suicide Squad was/is, because I can tell you right now, it's not the thing with Joker busting out Harley. That list of omitted scenes are just from the trailers and BTS shoots. Imagine what else there is. I know the original cut didn't open with "House of the rising sun" with the origin order for example.
