Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

This is a must-buy (Ex) for me! I just noticed that the base states no specific film (no surprise there) and the actual name of this is "Mordor Orc Scout".
Damn I hope the SS site doesn't crash this week!

Good catch...I hadn't even noticed that. My eyes were occupied with the sheer awesomeness of the statue itself. :drool

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

Agreed, with an ES of 350 the excl. won't last long. As for the skin colour, the colouring of the Mordor Orcs was all over the map and some difinitely had that ashen look.

EX is now 500!! WTF Sideshow????

They changed the price of the Berserker bust also.....:monkey4

That's kind of crappy...they'll argue that the ES was always 500 and that the 350 was an administrative error.

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

arrgghhhh ... got the Morgol Lord back in jan, Gandalf is in the mail and now I'm trying to figure out how to work this into budget along with Gollum. So many statues and so little money.

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

Correct. There are many screencaps featuring bluish or ashen coloured orcs...not to mention just about every other colour imaginable.

...look at Gothmog, totally epic. Once they make him i'll be all over that dude. :impatient:

What did they say to you mr thriffty when you called about the berserker price and gave them hell for advertising 900 and then changing it to 1200.

Still, I'd rather SS change the ES before taking pre-orders as opposed to after. :lecture

I am ok with the 'new' edition size of 500. At least I can now take my time to pre-order without worrying about a possible server crash.

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but this isn't a very good PF IMO. The concept art looked cool, but execution is wanting. The pants...whatever...this is a Sideshow afterthought to make the sucker mixed-media.

Someone mentioned the cool bottom of the foot...well, it really looks like they didn't know what to do with it, so they covered it with some makeshift shoe sole.

The armor is too BIG...there is no way an orc with those thigh pieces could run without them banging and clanking around.

Why would an orc be practically FULLY armored from the WASTE down and have only a small chest piece...doesn't make sense.

The second head is a nifty idea...but BOTH have Sideshow wonky eye. Only the LACK of light makes them appear to look right...Legolas vision returns.

Finally, this orc is practically HUMAN...about the ONLY thing that is orcish is the NOSE. Muscle tone, hands, feet, facial features...all point to a human with some makeup for a nose...almost looks like a BLUE Voldemort. Don't get me wrong...I know how Orcs were bred, but you would think that Sideshow would make this sucker a bit more EVIL looking with some freakish teeth, some bleeding scars, makeshift stitches in an arm, semi-helmeted second head, and make the color more MORDOR DARK (like GREY or even Black).

No offense intended to those who praise this 'statue', but this is the very reason that the PF line is creeping to a halt and Sideshow is focusing on the cheaper made statue line. Seriously...don't you think this would have made a better STATUE and perhaps have GIMLI in PF form with all the various MIXED MEDIA that could be done with his costuming??

I don't know...maybe I am just having a bad day :(

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

I think you're having a bad day.

Welcome back, but this is a great PF.

"Someone mentioned the cool bottom of the foot...well, it really looks like they didn't know what to do with it, so they covered it with some makeshift shoe sole.

Remember, the orcs scavenged most of their weapons and armor. The armor they didn't scavenge, they created themselves...unlikethe dwarves, the orcs were not known for their skills with forge.

I dunno. I like it. You don't, and that's fine. :dunno. While your opinions are your own and you have valid points, it just seems like your nit-picking. Maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

...and the actual name of this is "Mordor Orc Scout"...

I didn't notice that either. I'll have to check his armor a little more closely for badges. :duh

...I don't know...maybe I am just having a bad day :(

No, I don't think you're too far off. This didn't have the WOW effect like some of the other PFs. Pre-judgement is that I would put this one above only Galadriel, Frodo and Gandalf the White with the Moria Orc (only because of the Santa tunic) and the Morgul Lord (because of the pose) in a tie. That being said, it doesn't suck or anything like that. I'm looking forward to ordering it.

Re: Black Orc of Mordor Premium Format.

I just looked at the pictures again. Please disregard my previous post. :lol

...although I still don't like the regular head and sword. :monkey3

You might be right about SS adding the pants in order to qualify this PF as 'mixed media' though clearly there is also leather 'armour' protecting the lower torso as well. It's also pretty apparent in the screencap above that the Orc's of Mordor did were pants, which I think probably had more to do with SS adding them that to simply help qualify this statue as a PF. Anyway you want to slice it there is more of a mixed media aspect to this PF than either the Berserker or Gollum PF, and I don't see anyone questioning whether or not they are true PF statues.

And yes, some Orc armour was too big, and some was too small. And this applies to the helms as well. I think the word you used to describe the shoe sole is perfect....'makeshift' as everything about this army was makeshift. This was the furthest thing from being an organized, uniform army one could possibly imagine. After going through dozens of ROTK screencaps I can say without the slightest hesitaion that not only were no two Orcs dressed alike, rarely are they seen wearing armour that fit properly. And the same thing can be said for the helms as well. Clearly, most of the armour, helms, and weapons for that matter were 'hand me downs'. No doubt alot of it gathered on the battlefield from fallen comrades who weren't going to be needing it anymore. Personally, I think the 'rag-tag' look of the PF perfectly personifies what a Mordor Orc should look like....and I would have been disappointed had they portrayed him any other way.

The second head is a nifty idea...but BOTH have Sideshow wonky eye. Only the LACK of light makes them appear to look right...Legolas vision returns.

As for the 'human' look to this PF I can't agree with you. I don't look that this guy and think human at all, though there are many instances [screencaps] that do feature Orcs that look more or less human, right up to and including flesh-coloured skin. As for skin colour, SS could have gone with a myriad of different colours and none of them would have been any more "Mordor-like" than the colour they chose. Clearly, as seen in the screencaps below there is no such thing as a 'perfect' Mordor Orc....no two are alike, either in looks or colour.

I have to admit, this is perhaps the most puzzling comment you made in your entire post  How on earth can you claim the PF line is "creeping to a halt"? When have statues of this line ever been produced at greater than 'turtle-like' speed? SS has consistantly produced about two PFs/year since the line began and seeing as they still have 10 months to go...... I'm pretty confident we'll see at least one more [RWOS] before the end of the year.
