i dont really know. most of the used villains are the coolest ones there are, and those were in different films. so...the only used villains for nolan films are scarecrow, ras, joker, and two-face. that's it. he could still re-imagine a Burton or Shumacher villain however he wants to.

firt you wrote freeze twice and you forgot scarecrow and Ras al ghul

I think costumed villains would be a better term, the mobsters are just as much the cause and before Nolan, Carmine Falcone or Sal Maroni hadn't been used (unless you count that tiny snippet of a very chubby Maroni in Batman Forever).

The Joker's actions would've left a power vacuum in Gotham and there's still Mobsters Black Mask, Rupert Thorne and Carl Grissom to be used.

yes...but wouldn't you rather see the more exuberant costumed villains, opposed to the simple mobsters. if you want more mobsters, watch the godfather.

Yes. I want more over the top villains, who do nothing but spout lame ass puns, and act like morons. "WEEEE LOOKATME! I'M THE EVIL VILLIAN! MUAHAHAH! IMA GONNA KILL YA BATSY WATSY! PREPARE TO MEET YOUR DOOM VIA MY BIG O'L SUPER CANNO I HAVE AIMED AT GOTHAM CITY! HEHEHHOHOHO!! I ACT LIKE THE JOKER!"

wow...that's not at all an exaggertion. Dramatic...

haahah this is SOOOO what schumacher's gonna do.. . spot on CelticP bro!

I m new in here... and just want to chime in ..............but is villainsfan one of those really geeky fanboys... ? I dunno... i find his comments on the 3rd film... a bit.. funny...

Don't get me wrong I understand why he says that from a fanboy point of view...but isn't that view better to be used on a cartoon movie for kids? I mean, it's obvious that Nolan is taking a serious direction now and alot of obvious "villians" will actually be opted out.

Mr. Freeze? Nah.. really don't think so.. I dunno how you could make Freeze in a Nolan way BUT also with the fans liking without much change to his character.. imagine him shooting ice... that's bad.. or if it's gonna be "realistic" .. maybe use another way to freeze ppl.. which is just as bad ......(cos it will be so wayyyy out of the comics..)

Anyway, just my two cents..

Yeah sorry that I'd like to see the Batman franchise stand amongst one of the most beloved and respected film series of all time by having it carry on in a plausable and believeable arc.

I'd say if you want more exuberant costumed villains watch the Adam West show.
"YES, KILL THE HERO FOR I AM THE VILLAIN!"

Those mob stories have been at the heart of these Batman films and logically what would happen is with Gotham's key mobsters now out the way you will then get other mobsters moving into their turf and carving out sections of gotham for themselves.

Of course you can get a costumed villain coming to town to take a crack at the Bat, but it doesn't make for a massively compelling story if that's all the movie is.

Here's a basic proposal.

The Riddler, in disguise as a honest do-good civil attorny or activist blames Wayne corporation for heavily polluting the nearby water sources. (Of course, this is really the Riddler's work). Wayne obviously knows he is being hustled but the Edward Nygma is such a seemingly honest man that Wayne doesn't associate him with the crime.

Trying to clear his own name, Bruce Wayne brazenly puts the Batman alter ego at risk. Of course, Gotham is still weary of the Bat since the events leading to Dent's death and something goes wrong where it looks more like a cover up by Batman and now both Bruce Wayne and Batman are now public enemies #1 and 1A in Gotham.

To fix the situation, Bruce Wayne must use not only brawn but also guile and investigative skills (finally bringing to the big screen the DETECTIVE label the Batman character earned over the years in comics and cartoons).

Thats pretty much all I got. Add another baddie to either add sexual tension (Catwoman) or fight scenes (Bane, Clay Face, Killer Croc, etc). Finally wrap up the ending where Batman and Bruce both earn redemption in Gotham.
that's a really interesting idea. i bet nolan could really work around that with an extra villain or two.
What do you mean finally bringing, was the ballistics tests, fingerprint lifting off a shattered bullet and cross referencing addresses not enough detective work ?

Seeing as Nolan's not confirmed yet I wouldn't believe any rumours over casting, I'd like to think WB after helping to ^^^^ up the last series of Batman films due to their interfering will keep their noses out.

And I really don't want this to sound racist, I'm not a fan of when they change a character's ethnicity due to colour blind casting for the sake of Political Correctness. I wouldn't want to see Shaft played by a white guy.

The only time I've ever seen it truely work is when they cast Morgan Freeman as Ellis "Red" Redding in the Shawshank Redemption (for those who haven't read the book the character was an Irish guy with Red Hair)
that's not real detective work, and what are you talking about with WB and being racist?:confused:
1 or 2 CSI scenes is not what I call a detective movie. I mean really make this almost a noir film like Chinatown or L.A. Confidential.
well said:D

i would rather a more exuberant, possibly sexy villain than a simple mobster. nolan could do it, it doesnt have to be in a schumacher style.

I think you'll find it is, he took monitored for clues by conducting surveilance which led him to the building, he used the position of the bodies with entry wounds, he took ballistics, and then he performed fingerprint analysis. Then matched a possible lists of suspects with a residence overlooking the funeral parade.

Which part of this didn't count as detective work? Or would you like him to have a big magnifying glass and Ace the Bathound?

yes, but in a ratio with the entire movie, his detective skills were put to a minimal amount of work.
read the hush series, and you'll see him really trying to think outsideof the box.

I have read the Hush series, there was no reason for him to think outside of the box he did what was required to give the correct answer.

There was also the fact that he was radiating the bills so they could track the mobs money, interrogation, research knowing about Thomas Schiff. Knowing which members of the Gotham PD had family in a hospital.

Plenty of detective and investigation went on, we're just given enough credit to know it's been done. Watching Batman research at a computer for 2 hours 30 would be incredibly boring.

These movies cost an incredible amount of money and have certain expectations, if they did a Se7en style Batman movie it would be critically acclaimed I'm sure, but wouldn't make the studio the money it desired.

Plus it's a Batman movie, people want to see new Gadgets and to watch him hit people. It's what people expect, otherwise you may as well not have the Batman name on it.

if you were to sum up the movies in one word, it would be

batman begins - Origin
TDK - escalation
3rd movie - redmemption

i just dont want these movies to turn into the spiderman movies. i couldnt stand the cheesiness of them. other then joel schumachers, the batman movies by burton and nolan have had relatively small amount of cringe incuding cheese, i would want it to stay that way.

ok, i can understand that.

What I meant as a "detective movie" is more intrigue, suspicion, not so much CSI testing and computer research. The last film definately provided that to a degree. I guess I just want it pushed even further. I think the Riddler provides a classic bad guy that can fill that role especially because his real persona can be someone who is right out in public unlike the Joker. It also ties into the redemption needs for a 3rd film and conclusion to the trilogy.
