That's true...but that was probably swept under the rug. I dont even think Blue would've told anyone in the Brothel fantasy either. They mentioned the fire, the stabbing, and the escape.

The scene shows Babydoll firing the gun...missing her father...hitting a light bulb...and hitting a gas pipe on the wall. Her father was shocked and scared, while Babydoll rushed to help her sister who was lying dead on the floor after being fatally raped, while her father watched and grinned with content knowing he could get Babydoll locked up by framing her for the crime.
The father's plan was to molest the girls when the mother died and got upset after reading his wife’s Last Will & Testimony, which was shown in the beginning of the movie when she died…then decided to fulfill his sexual fantasy and kill his daughter for the money. Here’s the Last Will & Testimony from what the film zoomed in on:

If she was aiming at a man’s head, but missed and hit the ceiling light bulb, then how could it be low enough to strike a small child? Yet she was put in an asylum for killing her sister.

What movie did you watch? The sister is alive in the closet while Baby Doll is in the room....she wasn't lying there dead from being fatally raped as you put it. Baby Doll fires the gun at her stepfather, missed him and hits the light bulb and pipe. The bullet ricocheted off the pipe and hit her sister...that's what killed her. And Baby Doll is locked up because she's the one that pulled the trigger causing her sister's death.

That proves how bad this movie was pieced together.

The four other girls escape the mental institution while she sacrifices herself and gets a lobotomy? That's the only way she can come of looking heroic. Because as is she's just a patient lost in two fantasy worlds who gets lobotomized at the end. And when you get a lobotomy, you lose every battle you ever fought.

She loses the first battle: protecting her sister. She wins the second battle: saving Sweet Pea. She loses the war: gets lobotomized.
