Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - May 26, 2017
I was always looking at ESB as a two part story, not just as a single story. That's why I kept saying that there was really no conclusion until part 2 (ROTJ). All I'm saying is that to me, there's no difference between a film that uses the (part 1 and part 2..etc) "system" and films like ESB, LOTR, and Matrix, except that those films don't call their stories (part 1 or part 2), even though those stories have loose ends and the stories don't conclude until the third film, unlike other sequels. That's why I said that WB/DC should skip the part 1 and 2 name, and just call the film JL and the sequel JL 2....even if JL ends with a cliffhanger.
Well let me clarify then. I didn't say that ESB had a satisfying resolution on the level of the finale of ANH or ROTJ or a standalone film like Jaws or something. Our discussion was very specifically regarding the satisfaction of "middle films" compared to "Part 1 of a two-parter." You're now making it into something else because I never indicated that there wasn't more to be seen or done after the events of ESB. In fact I even acknowledged that it ended on a cliffhanger.
