SSC 1/6 ROTJ Emperor and Throne

And an umbrella to protect him from the sun when he takes his throne to the beach. Couldn't they have thrown in a drink tray and some waitresses while they were at it? A remote for Sunday sports? Come on. $140 is a lot of money. They could have done so much more.

I personally really think the figure sucks. Quite possibly Hot Toys has spoiled it all but I have to say I think this is a huge step BACKWARDS from Lando, Vader, Stromtrooper and even Obi-Wan AOTC and Ben Kenobi ANH (with respect, a huge step above Captain Piet)

In fact I was pretty shocked how little bashing SS was getting on this thread... must be used to mediocre efforts by them

1) Price. Normally I never _____ about this but the price is nearing double whatthey used to be and other than the crappy promethus there is noting to show for that at all. All other quality is still just as bad
2) bulky, unnatural robe, bunches at his arms, hood is too bulky, all wrong texture all over... just bad
3) Does not even have pants
4) Cane too short
5) Inner lining's waist tie looks like a joke...
6) No pants. Is it NEEDED? Maybe not but the thing cost upwards of 80 bucks, They culd have given him some damn pantaloons
7) the angry EX head is just so, so silly looking, I'm surprised so many are even using the damn thing
8) The reg head looks cheap, rough sculpt with a lot less fine detailings than most SS heads. Crappy paint. too-plasticy looking overall. Looks like he is wearing lipstick. barely looks like Mcdirmand unless you use trick photography. I pull the hood over the whole damn head and try to forget it's even there.
9) don't even get me started on the lightning
10) Pro. body. Willthey EVER getthis thing to not be so damn floppy? Hell Id prefer a buck at this point.


I can;t remember the lat time i hated something I got so much... I do... it was Leonidas, and compared to Palpatine, Leonidas is perfect. Usually I;m not so overtly hostile but this figure makes me downright angry

I can agree on the price a bit and the cane.

As for the pro, the joints on mine are tight. Havent had a loose one since, SE over a year ago.

He and Greedo should have been the same price as Lando. As it is, they're the same price as a trooper.

I agree with most of what you say, I think they only thing that I don't agree with is the robe. It should bunch up around the arms, and is the right texture, at least pretty darn close for 1/6th scale.

But, I can't overlook the rest and I'm likely to put him and the throne up for sale today.

2. I think the robe in one of the good things about Palps
3. I agree - he needs pants
4. I agree - cane is too short indeed
5. I agree that could be made in a better way

7. Do not agree at all, the EX looks superb. It's teh best of the 2 heads
8. The reg head is cool but I agree on lipstick and paint apps, he doesn't look like Ian McDiarmid unless shadowed and lighted in a dertain way - still we have to remember this is how we saw the Emperor in most cases.
9. it's bad they didn't include more accessories with this figure for the price we paid. lightning would have been a nice choice.
10. SS bodies are quite floppy alas.

This is why I dissagree about the robe. If you look at it in the context of sideshow robes it's probably better than their old stuff _in the context thst it does not fray. But the truth is sideshow is lightyears behind in tailoring and I'm willing to bet there's one guy here who agrees with me and has the skills to cobstruct their own robe and when doing so they are going to choose a heavier more textured material that does not have a duel lining because there's totally no need for that. All it does is bulk things up. Case on point with the comment I made about the sleeves. Bunching up is fine but the bunching creates unnatural bulk because there's no need for the inner lining. A nice heavy weighted cloth robe would hang naturally all on it's own. Wire in the hood is a good compromise _ But if it were cut properly with the proper weight it would hang true to film all on it's own. And what's up with the asymeyrical seam on the hood on the left side? No good.

Sideshow is still approaching these things like toys, and they are solving problems based on knowledge they've gained about the best way to handle a toy, _while other companies and cystomizers are thinking through the problems as if they were like real 1/1 scale people.

If they want to make stuff that's still 1 step above Hasbro, that's too bad really but their call. they just have to charge toy prices for their toys. If their prices want to play in the Hot Toys arena they better step up their damn game because even bootleg companies in Asia are putting out better stuff for similar prices. The only thing they have going for them is the Star Wars license._

Once I had this figure set up correctly and displayed in a Detolf, I felt that it looked amazing. I've already put it in my top 5 SS SW figs list.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with just a couple of Raymond Ferraro's points. In particular, the price and the short cane.

If this figure would have been priced at $60 and the cane made just a tad bit longer, it would have sold out immediately. But at it's current price, it's just difficult to justify the cost. Perhaps if they had thrown in a third headsculpt, the price would have made more sense.

While I love the angry sculpt, I just can't get over the melancholy look of the regular sculpt.

That is your opinion, personally I think he needs pants. First because it was advertised as such, second because of the price which was too high and accessories too less and no pants makes this even more sad or hilarious (depending on the point of view), then because other figures like this have it and there was no problem, and finally because it looks odd without these and I'm not sure they would be too bulky if tailored right. I don't need my figures to have underwear but at least pants under the robe yes. And the figure is not a piece of crap, in fact is one of my favorites (and I paid a lot for it), but SS got cheap on some of the accessories, but didn't go cheap on the price alas.

Well...the throne came out about a full month before Palpatine, so there is no excuse not to have one.
