Re: Collection Stash: Open Beta

I thought that might be the case but just wanted to point it out just in case. Thanks.

Another issue this morning... I can't seem to add images from a URL, but if I save the image to my computer and add it from there it works just fine.

I just did a quick test this morning and I am able to upload images via Chrome from a URL.

What are you seeing? I might be able to also check the logs tonight.

And I can also update the name to allow an ' that isn't a problem.

Re: Collection Stash: Open Beta

UPC I am using the standard 12 digit UPC length, at least according to wiki...

...As for the licenses yea I know :( I was struggling with this one in the beginning because I kept going back and forth. Either have the generic license like Star Wars or Rambo or POTC. I know some licenses it makes sense having the single license like Star Wars but for other franchises it might make sense to split them out because they are truly split out in real life.

I am open to suggestions on which licenses should be broken out completely.

Hmmm??? Hot Toys and Sideshow both have 13 digit UPC codes for some figures on their sites... I'll have to check an actual box and compare to figure out what is going on.

I see your thinking on the Licenses... here is my thought... input the same as the manufacturer. Maybe have an "overall" license like Star Wars or Pirates as a "catchall" if someone doesn't know the exact movie license, but still have the individual movie licenses for when that info is known.

You said you are using Chrome?

Anyone else having an issue upload photos from a URL using Chrome? I can check it out tonight.

Chrome worked before today, so it just might be I need to close and reopen... I'll try that in a bit and let you know.

It was just an error saying there was a problem uploading the image...

Yeah, I definitely think the ' will be useful, not sure if any other symbols are needed, but I know they can cause problems with a database, so as few as possible to avoid problems.

Yea let me know what you find out about the UPC. From what I gather 12 digits is the standard.

I agree about the licenses, I think the only one that I would still want to keep altogether is Star Wars cause I feel like that is one or none.

We can also use categories to break them out in more detail and tags(yes I know I still need to add the edit code :) ).

Keep me posted on your upload issue.

Yea I definitely wanted to start as limited as possible and add as necessary. I have a few other characters I added previously, although not sure what they are off the top of my head.

Re: Collection Stash: Open Beta

I closed Chrome completely and made sure no processes were left running, went to lunch and came back and tried again with the same results. I'll try to reboot my computer to make sure it isn't something just "stuck" on my machine.

I've added some of the Copperhead-18 figures but their was no license/line to choose, so I used Military for now... if you could add the following licenses when you get a chance...

Hot Toys now has a "Designers" series that is a category just like MMS, and these licenses go under it...

Jason Siu

Sounds good, I will get those add tonight!

Also link the photo you are trying to upload, and I can try it, maybe it is the photo.

No, it has done it on every photo from every item I've tried today, and that is a lot. Let me reboot and retry before you worry too much about it.

This has been done, I also added the other two POTC movies out there as licenses. I will probably do the same for Rambo and Rocky at some point and whatever else we need.

Re: Collection Stash: Open Beta

Ok, I rebooted my computer this morning and uploading from a URL (using Chrome) still does not work; I receive the following error:

image.png

Chrome worked up until yesterday. Also tried IE 9 and it does not work from a URL either.

Also, when adding a variant, I still cannot edit the category field or remove tags already there.

I updated several figures with Hot Toys product codes and URL's and noticed the Ancient Predator and Ancient Predator Asia Edition are reversed as far as variants... that is, the Asia Edition is the variant of the Ancient Predator, not the other way around. But this brings up an interesting idea... should both products show each other as variants, instead of just the base item?

Can you post a link to the picture you are trying to upload, so I can use it for testing myself and see if I can figure out a reason.

The tag part will be on the next release which should be this weekend.

Hehe, I had a similar conversation about this a while ago and I think what I found that with some of these predators there can be variants of variants which I currently do not allow (but I could easily open up).

Being from the US, it is easy for me to say that the US edition is the default version and the Asian version is teh variant but that is not always the case.

I am sure how I feel about having a collectibles be variants of each other, it would be nice if there is always a base but maybe that isn't possible.

If you think I should switch them, can you post the links here?

Thanks again!

EDIT: I think I see the problem now that I pasted the URL... for some reason it is a secure URL (https)... I'll try the regular http version as soon as I get a chance and report back.

Ancient Predator - base MM030

Ancient Predator - Asia Edition - variant MM031

https://www.hottoys.jp/item/view/100001194

As for variants of each other, what I meant was, on the details page, it shows any variants at the bottom... I was thinking on the variant details page to show the base at the bottom, otherwise, you might not know it is a variant. The original would still be the base and it would have a variant and the variant would have a base, not a variant.

As for variants of a variant, you will need to allow for that because they do exist! :)

Ok as far as the image is concerned, I think it potentially has to doing https vs http.

I could not get

https://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_assets/jpg/63901_press01-001.jpg

to work either but

https://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_assets/jpg/63901_press01-001.jpg

does work. It could be something on my end with uploading photos from https but if you remove the 's' it should work.

I can work on allow variants of variants for the next release, should be pretty easy.

I can also switch those two tonight as well.

Yeah I figured out the image problem while you were typing. :rotfl

Thanks! Also, speaking of variants, there is no way to add a variant if the base hasn't been approved yet... I understand why that is, but was wondering if there was any way to accomplish this in the future? I had several figure product pages open and ready to input yesterday, but couldn't add about half of them because they were variants and I was adding the base figure at the same time. Just something to think about...

Hmm, yea that is something to think about.

Of course I am being optimistic here, if the site really takes off and a lot more submissions start pouring in we will definitely need to help get things approved faster. I am not sure I will open up adding variants to collectibles that have not been approved so I think the other side of it is making the approval process faster.

A couple ideas I have:
- Adding moderators to allow other people to be mods to approve collectibles.
- Having an escalation indicator for pending collectibles. If there is a collectible you want approved more urgently you could indicate that. The only problem with this one is how you stop people from just doing that with everyone.
- This is my dream goal but wouldn't be really viable unless we had a large active community but to allow users to approve collectibles themselves based on a voting system of some sort. So many votes or points (or some sort of measurement) would be needed by different users to get a collectible approved. This would be the most self sufficient method and would be freaking awesome but would require a lot more members to be effective.

That is how DVD Profiler does it... the community votes for approval of added or changed DVDs or Blu-rays. The only real problem with that method is it takes a while for things to get approved as it has to be left open for some time so that people have time to vote.

I think we could work on a combination of that system + mods. Where if something urgent needs to get approved a mod could come in an approve it otherwise left open to the community. But I could see time being an issue.

Well, once the "bulk" of the items have been input, which hopefully will happen up front, then new items wouldn't be needed to be approved that fast. Most of them would be input when they first go up for pre-order and would be approved long before shipping.
