I didn't love Rubbercop, but I didn't hate it either. It kinda was it's own little thing and I'm glad I saw it. At least it didn't try to say the original movie didn't exist and have Rubbercop beat up the original or have an evil app trying to take over the world. Y'know, like that other movie..

I didn't think it was a twist seeing the characterization of Robocop being in reverse compared to the 87 film. In the original, he's a cyborg coming to terms with knowing he was once human. In Rubbercop, he's a human coming to terms with being a cyborg.

No Clarence Boddicker was a major fail though.

And that's like 18% of the whole film at best.
Mostly it's about how he's being used and abused, which felt too cheesy for the "grounded" tone.

Yeah, you're right about that. In the 87, his transition from just being a cyborg is the whole film and is culminated with this.

Not really an issue though, is it? It was already handled expertly the first time, & anything resembling Clarence in RubberSchlepp would just be more faux pointlessness. :lol

I see what you mean, but there's no villain in it :dunno

He should of had nightmares about touching car door handles at least.

I think SLJ's hair was a villain, or at least a crime against something. :lol

Anyway, as RIDDICK mentioned earlier though, da moofy has at least one good bit; the part where Oldman shows Schleppy his true form.

Pretty unsettling actually.

Unfortunately the "least I know you're the right color now" line was more unsettling, followed by "Bad cop, RoboCop" scene. I literally cringed in my sit during the first viewing.

Ugh... time for another dose of the real black RoboCop to forget that.

Do you remember the cartoon? It blows my mind today to think we had a cartoon based on the original RoboCop. But they also have Norris and Rambo cartoons so I guess it isn't that unusual.

Not only that, but they even had a large scale action figure for the alien from Alien, marketed squarely at kids. Man, I wanted that figure when I was. Kid, never found it though, I remember the commercial for it though, vaguely.

Prime Directives is one of the worst things in my opinion. It is even worse than the TV series which is almost just as terrible. Seriously Robocop 1 and 2 is the only worthy 2 movie. After that it is better just forget everything. But it is good for laughs at least. Piss poor attempt.

Just look at this crap...I mean wtf?

Can you describe your reasons? Just curious. :)

Overall pacing and last two film's poor directing are the only real downsides for me.
The story is solid for a "ten years later" sequel to the original RoboCop.
Cable was cool, I'd make a custom figure of him if I had $ to buy extra hot toys :lol

Sure. In short I don't like the story and it's execution. I don't like the acting. The villians are terrible the music and the hole thing. The scenes, the dialog and RoboCop itself is just horribly written in my opinion. The gap quality wise between this and the original is so huge...it's not even funny. When I am watching it it feels nothing like Verhoeven' s universe and character. It is something else. Basically a Scifi channel low budget mega B movie. And when Robo starting to tremble when he got shot...I just can't take that seriously.

Oh well, knew it. :D
I don't agree on the story but understand how low quality can impact viewer's perception.

To be fair, Verhoeven threw the script of RoboCop into trash can at first. :lol
He took a cheesy childish script that had potential and made an entertaining mature satirical film.
In that regard PD works well for the most part, it's just not as enjoyable.
