Actually XM, Kotobukiya and I think even Sideshow have all said it was hard to push out statues of X-Men characters because restrictions from Disney/Marvel.


Regarding the X-Men Hot Toys figures, Howard Chan has said the licensing is different than Marvel and they have to get the individual actors likeness approved. That's why we've only seen Hugh figures. It's not because the franchise is weak or a money loser.

Yes, this is all true so It's not conjecture. And or the record Dfan, the Inhumans will NEVER be as popular as the X-MEN. Also, Misney execs have flat out admitted publicly that they will not spend resources or money on something they will not see a lions share of the profits on. Can anyone blame them? Why would Misney allow new characters or awesome storylines to be introduced in the comics when Fox can simply lift them and use them in their movies? Avengers and Age of Ultron have made almost 2.5 billion dollars so far. Misney is not sharing any of those profits with other studios. Long gone are the days when comics made most of the money for Marvel. When 2 movies can generate over 2 billion dollars, comics are small potatoes. You're a cool dude Dfan but the facts all point to one direction. The X-MEN and the FF will continue to wither on the vine at Misney until they either get complete contol of the movie rights or a slice of the pie like they did with Sony (for Spidey).

If X-Men is such an un-profitable franchise then I wonder why Sideshow Collectibles and Koto have in the past probably made more X-Men statues than any other Marvel property or why it's the longest running and almost highest rated marvel movie franchise.

Bingo. You can't force an existing C-list franchise that never took off with readers to all of sudden replace a huge A-list franchise that's been beloved for decades. At best it could be bumped up and become more popular but in no way would it be as popular.

Because X-Men are amongst their biggest selling and most popular comic franchises, hindering creativity hinders only their own sales.
Besides Fox has decades of characters and storylines to use already and will never get around to doing more than 10% of them so adding more for the benefit of the comics, which Marvel profits soley from, won't realisticly help Fox. Even if they do create new characters they'll probably take years and years to take off, there's a reason comics stick to the status quo, it's because readers have favourites they've known for a long time and new ones hardly ever rise to such a popularity level.

You have a point about Marvel holding back on new characters and storyline so Fox use it on their movies. I can see them doing that and I can seem them wanting a piece of the pie but I honestly think Marvel/Disney are not that bothered by not having the rights for those movies, right now. Marvel created a perfectly fine and successful universe without them and at this point they are probably better off without having the rights for the XMen. It's such a vast universe with so many characters that putting them together with the rest of the MCU would just get too convoluted. Mutants deserve their own story.


I'm actually curious to see where it goes after Apocalypse since they used up the 3 of best story lines already. I think rebooting the franchise will turn off some of the fans.

As I said before, comics are a drop in the bucket of Misney's revenue. Avengers and Age of Ultron will generate over 2.5 billion dollars for Misney alone. How many X-books (or comics in general) does Marvel need to sell to match those numbers? It's not about the comics for Disney. Disney does business on a whole different level than Marvel used to. It's all about the movies and movie rights nowadays. Disney is a corporation hell bent on maximizing revenues. Comics are an afterthought to them.

i'm glad Disney doesn't have the rights, I like that all the studios have their own spin on the films.

Disney/Marvel - def for kids/family, light and fluffy, sometimes too much comedy and non threatening villains
Fox - more serious, graphic
DC - darker and more serious, graphic

all studios have had great films and duds... don't know why everyone wants the mouse to control all the marvel films. all the studios films are already getting way too cramped imo with the amount of characters, they don't need to interact with another.

Because they don't actually care about the quality of these movies, all they care about is if Iron Man gives Spider-Man a high five while winking at Wolverine and being on the phone with Reed Richards all at one time. The actual quality of the movie is irrelevant.
