It's been a few years since I left SC so I'm no longer privy to the current internal workings over at SC, but I can tell you how it was when we first started the GI Joe line. All of us on the team were either intimately familiar with the GI Joe property or with modern military gear and military history. Most of us knew both. Our goal was to create a GI Joe line that represented what a 'real' modern GI Joe team would look like, drawing on the classic designs and updating their gear and weapons. We worked with some of the top real world tactical manufacturers to license and miniaturize their product into sixth scale. It is safe to say that most of that original team is no longer at SC. It isn't surprising then, that the momentum isn't there and that design decisions haven't been faithful to the original mission statement. It may seem like I'm biased, but I really loved our work on the GI Joe line. It's a shame that it has gone the way of other popular licenses, if in fact, it has gone into hiatus.

Matt Bischof seems to be still around though....but in the end,you guys made a GREAT 1/6 scale GI Joe line based off the classic 80's characters even though they were not 'exact' card art representations.Looking at my shelf full of Joes/Cobra's,I have no problems with them

Thats the thing most people seem to miss, this was never a "card accurate" line...
They did a really good job of a modern take staying fairly loyal to the source material

I'd be curious to see what "the original team's" interpretation of Destro would have been. Perhaps it would have been a little more faithful to the iconic design while updating to current military realism without the stupid REI vest and trench coat.

But there are a lot of complaints about the lack of card accuracy.

None of the figures have been card accurate. But, you can see how SS kept alot of the original look from the card art on most of them. To me, Sideshow has been inconsistent in their depiction of some of the characters.

I don't know what the original objective of the G.I. Joe line was. But to me it was modern versions of the characters in 1/6 scale and statue form. Be it Premium Formats or maquettes. I'm still confused over the use of the two terms and why Sideshow doesn't clarify it. The 1/6 Baroness is great to me. The way the figure line should be. Modern interpretation. I passed on all the others. I just wasn't feeling the likeness and other things. Flint should have been a get but he just wasn't to me.

Maybe Sideshow can take the success of Baroness and finish Scarlett. Then use that as inspiration to move forward with the line. 1/6 figures and maquettes. Premium Formats, now being fully sculpted as well, is just too confusing to the average customer.

It would be a real shame if we didn't get Scarlett eventually. Seems like a waste now that they've got the female body, and Baroness turned out so nice!

Sideshow Q, thanks for chiming in. Always interesting to hear about the inner workings of stuff like this. I have to admit, though, that I did like how some of the later releases were more "card art accurate", but with modern weaponry. That was a good balance.

Yup, sucks they didn't at least give us Scarlett.

I also think offering 5 straight Cobra characters hurt the line as well.

The inclusion of the vest and coat isn't the issue, it's the lack of faithful design Destro display options.
Throw in the vest and coat, but give us Destro's black jumpsuit and removable red collar. That way you please both sides, display Destro card art accurate or remove the collar, put on the vest and you have modern Devil's Due Destro. It's so simple.

As much as I want Scarlett, I equally want Lady Jaye. They can't end the line without Jaye!

Jaye would be nice, but Scarlett is more essential, imo.

If they made Jaye, I'd really want a Shipwreck... Ideally we'd get Scarlett, Gung Ho, Roadblock, Shipwreck and Lady Jaye, as those seemed to be the "main" characters for much of the Sunbow run (everyone else basically being done already). But Scarlett first and foremost!
