I I hadn't seen that. Explains things I guess but it makes it no less dumb to not mention what happens IMO. It's one of the things I would knock the movie for.

They talk about it a little here: https://au.ign.com/articles/2014/04/15/dawn-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-producer-dylan-clark-on-building-a-simian-empire

I reckon I'll have the same reaction as you, Pturtle.

People here completely exaggerate and overhype new movies, so every time I see these new movies I'm expecting a 9/10 - 10/10 "Wow, incredible!!" movie. :lol

Kind of like how Vintij just called the first one "sensational".

I think this looks great and certainly better than the first, which I initially loved then came to dislike more and more, though I still think it's a good movie, but I'm not expecting this movie to go higher than an 8/10.

We shall see...

After sleeping on it, I do think this film was better than the first, but theres 3 things that happen, that really took me out the film. The apes really do look incredible, but I only cared about 2 of them, maybe 3, the humans on the other hand played the same cliche roles I’ve seen in plenty of other films, and the conflict between the Humans and apes, seems a bit forced.

So far I think the reboot series is solid, but I much prefer the originals.

Got to go again this weekend...
Haven't stopped thinking about it all day. Is it "better" than "Rise..."? Hmmmm. I'll say this... for me, it's similar to " Winter Soldier" in that it is a great continuation of the story featuring those characters. Reeves makes a great choice taking what could've been a large,over-the-top action bombast and keeping it intimate... really focused on the mirror struggle between man and ape. Great, great film...so many amazing images and so much emotion.

Enjoying the "Art of..." book tonight... I'll catch the movie again tomorrow...

I saw this today, and, within the last five minutes, I had an epiphany: I had just spent the last two and a half hours watching a talking ape, so engrossed with everything happening around me that it seemed completely normal. They talk about "the uncanny valley," and how your brain is able to tell you when something is fake; well, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has literally brought us into a new age of computer generated images in filmmaking. I saw this Chimp speak, and not once did I think "yeah, right," or "why am I even watching this ****?" Phenomenal writing and direction , a remarkably compelling story, and incredible performances from everyone involved make this a must see blockbuster of the summer.

Plus, it had a bunch of subtitles, so all those stupid people who went to see monkeys beat the hell out of each other actually had to read.:lol

Then definitely go see it, I enjoyed it more than the first, but thought the first was only okay. It's a lot different than the first one too, the change of directors is definitely felt.

The work to create Cesar was pretty outstanding. Weta did some outstanding work.

Really awesome movie. Not even an apes fan but this was good. Craving for more.
