Yeah, the brown material was cheaper to buy.

Now who's not making sense? They'd have to use more dye to make it brown than orange.

Even the Hasbro whiplash's have brown pants, both 3" and 6". And pretty much EVERY other toy of him from the movie... ALL BROWN... Keep reaching though.

Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't make it any less true. It makes even less sense to lie about it... What would anyone have to gain by that lie?

I say they have a dance fight about the pants colour !

You really take this to heart, don't you?

You seemed pretty into the conversation until your hubris was derailed. Even going as far to call it a conspiracy. Don't spout nonsense and people won't have to correct you, champ. If it doesn't matter to you, why even argue about it?

If its that kind of fight, I'm sure DasMuse would win.

Come on, don't be a sore loser... It can't be the first time you were wrong :lol

How can there be legal implications in using an orange jumpsuit for an action figure? That sounds ridiculous.

The suits were specific to the Automobile Club of Monaco Marshals IRL, the design is trademarked and would have to be licensed. Its is likely specific enough that a look alike would be considered legally too similar because of the color (like UPS's specific color brown)

If you really wanted an orange suit there are already made options out there that would be easy enough to adapt, like the suit on Darkzone Agent RENEGADE or Multifun Quarantine Zone Agent

The only other thing they revealed during con season last year was these, which are all basic releases.

They did the same thing the year before, reveal basic releases in that format making people think that they're special.

All of these (except the BD Iron Man) were first revealed at SDCC along with a ton of other releases, so I'm not sure what you mean by that's all they revealed during Con season, they had tons of prototypes. The 4 in that photo except Iron Man went up for preorder immediately after SDCC last year.

Someone mentioned that they thought there was a 2nd wave of con exclusives revealed last year, which isn't true. I figured they got confused by that picture. That's all.

My least favorite Marvel villain so I'm going to take my sweet time getting this one seeing as I don't have it.

Oh c'mon - in ripping this one by saying HT was reverting to old and "inferior technology", you thereby were implying that all the newer products were better. I was just calling b.s. in a none-too-subtle way! :lol

Well, in my defense, the Boseman proto was a gorgeous sculpt! It's not my fault they decided to cheap out on a severely downgraded POS for the final production run...still makes my blood boil when I think about it... :slap

I don't know if I'd automatically conclude HT made a conscious decision to release a downgraded sculpt, but it would be interesting to find out the inside story on what happened with that head. I have zero experience with the manufacture of soft plastics/vinyl, so any speculation would be pure guesswork. But there are a number of variables to be considered in casting processes, and small changes to any of them can often lead to quality issues with the cast part. Maybe the Boseman casting came from a new supplier or a newly launched production facility? The features are definitely softer than what we've come to expect, but perhaps HT thought it could still be saved by their painters? If so they were wrong, but regardless let's hope they've learned their lesson and that won't be repeated in the future.

As a collector of Hot Toys since MMS01, I will tell you what happened. They did a bait and switch, pure and simple. From the beginning of their inception as a company, they pull this move when they realize they need to sell a re-iteration of a certain character later on down the road. They purposely will release an inferior sculpt so that on the next try people will be amazed and say Hot Toys nailed it when Hot Toys could have nailed it the first time. The only exception is when they have trouble getting a headsculpt approved by the actual licensor, but you can tell when that happens as the head sculpt looks like pure trash. These examples where the head sculpt looks "okay" are the former reason. They probably realize Black Panther 2 will have a similar costume so I guarantee you that figure will have the real Boseman sculpt.

Honestly, if I had the time to spare, I'd take a photo of every one of my Hot Toys with the Boseman sculpt replacing the main sculpt and share just to see your virtual head explode... :wink1:

This is a complete rehash. Which I'm glad about as my original Whiplash fig wont loose too much value.
Only new thing I see is the dio base which looks like the one from the BD Terminator fig.

I dunno man, when you look at the stark contrast between proto and final production, there is more going on than simply a minor loss in detail. These are pretty much 2 completely different headsculpts. Let the pictures illustrate what I'm talking about! This is inexcusable! I have zero experience in terms of their manufacturing process too, but I can tell you what this is...it's a damn SCAM!!! Like c'mon, look at the final production sculpt...it looks like what a bootleg/unlicensed company would produce. You're telling me both headsculpts are from the SAME company??? Unbelievable! :slap

I've always called HT out on this BS tactic, it's bait and switch, pure and simple! There's no other way to describe it...other than calling it a con job. You can't show off something super duper polished and then present it later on with a bunch of lost details. Honestly, if we see the next BP figure with this first headsculpt, then this will be definitive proof of what you're suggesting here.

Lol why not this week? Everyone's got a 3-day weekend! I shall patiently wait for these photos...why bother with fireworks when you can see my "virtual head explode"? :lol

Well, the prototype was 100% hand made while the production head was (presumably) somehow cast from it, so IMO it's not that difficult to believe they're both from the same company. But I agree that something was definitely lost in translation. :lol
