I go by The KKL Rule with film directors.

(and since you didn't specify theatre/television and/or film . . )

He has a public personality that not everybody warms to, but come on... give the man his due for a pretty impressive filmography and for being a technical innovator.

Love Peter Weir, he nails it every time. Master and Commander is one of my all-time favourite films

I will also say that Peter Jackson deserves an honorable mention, if only for bringing the LOTR to the screen, a feat I had once thought impossible.

The script for this thread is ok, but the directing is terrible.

If Cameron hadn't done Avatar or Titanic he would easily be my favorite.

I don't want to say Spielberg because he gets so Spielbergery with his films it gets sickening, especially when there's kids in it. But I love the Indy movies (did not see last one), Jaws, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List. Minority Report was a nice surprise too.
