I've seen February listed several times so that is probably a good date, but who realistically knows. Do you really have to get the Star Wars edition? The Gears 3 and Modern Warfare 3 are pretty good looking consoles, and I see piles of them still leftover from Xmas at Best Buy.

My crazy Star Wars Nerd fetish tells me I need the Star Wars version. Dumb I know but would be cool as hell to have.

If its February I'll bite but if later than that i'll probably just go with the $399.99 bundle that comes with the kinect. I like the GOW3 version but I want a kinect.

Thanks for the info.

Semi newb question: I had a launch 360 that RRODed after a year or so. Once I got it back from repair, I sold it. My bro bought me a new 360 this Xmas. I was hooking it up, but I noticed that there are no more memory card slots (I had a 360 memory card withs ome old game saves like GOW and DOA) and no slots to hook up the HD-DVD add on (a novelty, I know, but I'd like the option to use it if I so choose too).

Yeah, I realize that this was more of a statement, but can someone confirm that those were removed?

I actually just sold my 2nd original Xbox for one of the brand new black 'slims' and I had the big old clunky HDD from the original Xbox's as well.

If you remove one of the vent covers on the new xbox there is a small space for the new hard drives that Microsoft are selling. However, I took apart my old 120 gb HDD using Torx screwdrivers #6 and #10 and carefully disconnected the hard drive inside and was able to connect it (very delicately) to the new Xbox slots...it's a pretty tricky process and if you are good with your hands and fixing stuff then you should try this out. PM if you want more information.

Regarding your HD-DVD add on, don't the new 360's automatically have HD-DVD drives built in? I have a blu ray so I'm not too sure about the drives otherwise.

Good luck!

The slot for the HD DVD was a USB slot.

From Microsoft description

: Connect more accessories and storage solutions with added USB ports. Now with a total of five (three back/two front), you’ll find more places to plug and play. Plus, in addition to the standard Ethernet port and HDMI output, we’ve added an integrated optical audio out port for an easier connection to the booming sound of your A/V receiver.

No memory card slot it seems but they make USB adapter for them so you can still use them that way.

Thanks, gentlemen!

Microsoft might be doing away with the points system. This is great to me because I hated the micro-transactions from the start. I really didn't like having to buy more points because I had a balance that wasn't enough to cover something, but then I'd have to buy another couple hundred points so I can have another balance. :slap
https://www.gamespot.com/news/microsoft-phasing-out-virtual-currency-system-6349074

Source: A report on specialist mobile site InsideMobileApps.com, quoting "a source with knowledge of the company's decision".

What we heard: Since the inception of Xbox Live on the Xbox 360, Microsoft has relied on its custom Microsoft Points currency system to be the primary choice for all its online transactions. However, the system hasn't been without its criticisms, with a lawsuit over Microsoft's unused digital currency surfacing just last year.

According to the report, the Microsoft Points currency will be phased out over the next few months, to be completely gone by the end of 2012. In its place, the software and hardware giant will allegedly begin to use real-world currencies around the globe.

The report states the move won't just be restricted to Xbox Live Arcade, with both the Zune and Windows Phone Marketplaces also making the migration over to real-world dollars.
According to the story, Microsoft has already started informing mobile developers of the impending changes to its currency system, and warned them to take it into consideration for future products.

The official story: A Microsoft spokesperson told GameSpot AU: "Microsoft doesn't comment on rumors and speculation".

GameSpot AU also contacted a prolific game development studio with numerous games on Microsoft platforms--whose identity has been kept off the record--who reported that it has not heard any reports regarding a change to Microsoft's currency system.

Bogus or not bogus: With the push for companies to develop universal platforms, it would make sense for Microsoft to want to unify its currency system under one umbrella.

If true, the change could be designed to appease mobile users, putting the Windows Phone Marketplace on par with trading practices that both the Apple App Store and Android’s Marketplace abide by. Currently, users of Microsoft's mobile platform can use both Microsoft Points and real-world money to purchase music and videos, but not applications.

Without a doubt, this change would make buying content on Microsoft marketplaces easier to compare and understand.

Oh yeah, why use points when you can use good 'ol fashioned Dollars?

Side question: does anyones Xbox randomly NOT connect to LIVE once and a while? Mine does this once a month, for no apparent reason, then all is returned to normal?

Side article on Xbox 720's video chip ability, if true, should be awesome

https://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/01/24/xbox-720-will-be-six-times-as-powerful-as-current-gen

Yea its been happening to me pretty frequently recently. I do the test and it says I'm connected to the internet but can't connect to live. Then I try around 10 mins later and all is well. :gah:

God l hope 3D will be dead by then. There is a reason 3D TV's aren't selling well.

Early technology. Expensive and probably a little gimmicky right now. I can foresee the video game market steering the tv market in the proper direction by default.

But that's the question. Do the console makers work with what tv's are capable of or do tv makers start adapting to what consoles are going to be capable of?

There will be an option for 3D if it hangs around, it will not be forced on us because sorry to say 3D is stupid and most agree.

I'm not into the 3D stuff either, but it's mostly me not the technology. I'm easily prone to migraines and blurred vision, so 3D just makes it worse. I usually have to take the glasses off every 15-20 minutes when I go see something in the theater. As long as it's optional I don't really care, but if it will be implemented into every game I'm sticking with my regular tv.

The 3D fad came and went back in the 80s and the same thing is happen ending now, it is not the future. It'll go away and pop up again in 20 years. Don't expect 3D to be a big selling point for the new Xbox.

what's that in english? :rotfl

lolz...the next gen of high end graphics card from ATI/AMD.

The Xbox will probably be using a modified version though, cos the first batch of the 7000 series Graphics card cost at least $500USD.

Thanks Mr. Kaz

I'm always assuming that everyone is computer knowlegable. :lol

But yeah, as the article says - modified version for sure. Still could be intersting.
