I totally hope they do more rather than less of this, though suggestions have been made that they will reference some events from that film with Jean, etc.

Yeah, the events of the Wolverine are desigined, from what we know, to talk about Logan being responsable for killing Jean... but so long as they don;t go into too many details, it should be fine. Also, ifthey re-align the timeline with DOFP, then the events of The wolverine might become moot.
