Garfield: "We're approaching this like it's Shakespeare, like a Greek myth, these comic book characters are our modern myths...
We still want to see our favorite characters on the big screen, and in 3D I might add. So for me it's just another chapter in the long history of a comic book story that means so much to so many people."

Q&A discussion after the footage screening.

Audience Q&A has started, Marc Webb talks about how they looked at the Ultimate Spider-Man series to reference body-type for Spider-Man.

Any hesitation about signing on? "I hesitated for a month, I was really scared," Andrew says. "I was scared of the crowds and I still am, but I couldn't say no to it ultimately."

Question for Webb about this being darker. Webb: "Darker is one of those loaded terms... I want the style to be grounded, I wanted you to recognize what you see on screen as our real world, and that goes for physical, aesthetically, emotionally."

Webb: "I don't use that term darker, but it's very emotionally complex, it's very rich and we're trying to create that in a very real and authentic way."

Garfield: "Peter Parker has been the one fictional character that I've feel I've related to... I bought my first Spider-Man costume when I was 2." "I've always felt close to it personally."

Garfield didn't speak to Tobey Maguire while shooting, but did speak to him after. He did get a message once he was announced as Spider-Man though and Tobey gave him his blessing. "It made me feel okay about jumping into it."

"I'm one of you, and I want to be out there watching and judging it," Garfield says. "It was incredibly fun, but I also felt the responsibility of it."

Reading all about The Amazing Spider-Man comic con footage and panel Q & A has cemented my opinion that this movie will be a worthy reboot. And really glad to know that there is Spidey wisecracking in the movie.

I am hoping the footage will be online soon. But since it was all shown in 3D, the video might be blurry.

That was ____ing great! That's a real fan who gets it. And he just happens now to be living out a childhood dream.

:exactly: There are millions of fans who dreamed of having Spider-Man's powers as a kid. His stories and convictions still resonate and inspire people to do the right thing. Including adolescent teenagers who may feel like an outsider just like Peter Parker did and hence are able to relate to the character on many aspects. Andrew Garfield is getting the opportunity of a life time to play the dream role of his hero in real life and he is truly grateful for that opportunity.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I thought the speech was awesome.

Seeing him visibly overcome with emotion ("just like Twilight!" - ____ off) was great. He was having more of a nervous reaction being surrounded by his "peers" at SDCC than on the red carpet.

And him being willing to be in front of a crowd in that cheap costume shows he doesn't take himself too seriously.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Yes, one of the cool things is how much of a fan he is. Known about it since the beginning. But the casual kids are now gonna learn it.

More things this awesome movie is doing right!

The character goes back to the original Ditko look

SDCC: More Details on The Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard

by Silas Lesnick
July 22, 2011

Comic-Con 2011 may have hit its biggest reveal today with the first footage of The Amazing Spider-Man's central villain, the Lizard in Hall H.
One of Spider-Man's earliest villains in the comics, the character, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, made his first appearance in "The Amazing Spider-Man" #6. A herpetologist, Dr. Curt Connors inadvertently transformed himself into the reptilian beast while trying to re-grow a missing arm.

In the footage, we see Rhys Ifans talking to Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) class about his studies to do exactly that. He's working for Oscorp and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) appears to be his lab assistant.

Another scene has Connors standing with a mirror in front of him, trying to imagine his body with two arms. He takes a drug in his lab and begins to transform, first successfully re-growing a human hand and then growing scales up and down his body.

The big reveal, though, came with a final scene that started with two girls in a bathroom, talking about one of their recent breakups. Behind them, a toilet starts to bubble and then the floor around it begins to crack. An enormous hand emerges from the hole and we see the lizard for the first time in full. Apparently entirely CGI, the character goes back to the original Ditko look, though the character's body is much more muscular. He also, as is revealed in a shot where he sniffs the terrified girls, has a gigantic tongue.

Below is an original piece of Ditko art. Hopefully, an official image from the film will be available soon, but check back soon for an exclusive interview with Ifans himself.

(BTW is it just me that wants to hear Emma Stones raspy voice at top level as she straddles me and rides it home?)

:rotfl

Not surprising considering that if you watch the full panel on youtube, he comes on late and when he's asked a questioned by one of the audience he looks completely wasted and stumbles for an answer. The guy was definitely drunk or worse. Doesn't surprise me at all that he got into it with one of the security guards. Total asswipe.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Haha I love how this thread goes from non-stop _____ing to absolutely loving the movie.

12 months ago I hated with every fiber of my being Sony rebooting this series even with the travesty that was Spider-Man 3. But over the last several months I've come around probably because I saw how great of an actor Andrew Garfield is in the films Never Let Me Go and Red Riding. Add Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans and Sally Field and you've got a truly terrific cast plus Marc Webb as director who delivered a fantastic film in 500 Days of Summer. And I loved the teaser trailer that leaked and didn't find it lacking at all. Once I saw it in 3D Thursday night before Cap, I was sold and then Garfield comes out Friday night and delivers that speech and I'm like where can I buy a ticket for the midnight show in IMAX 3D? That's about as drastic of a 180 that you can go. Same goes for a lot of people on this board.
