Re: AVATAR

Like Lucas, he seems to be giving up the ability to tell a compelling story in favor of relying on CG. Magic 8-ball says, "All signs point to expensive suck", but I hope I'm wrong. He, like Lucas, WAS responsible for much of my youthful fascinations.

remind me when that happened? unlike most blockbuster directors, unlike lucas and even spielberg, cameron always integrate cg into the story. they're never just window dressing in all his films.

Re: AVATAR

24 minutes of avatar was shown at CineExpo in Amsterdam to an amazed crowd of about 2000. more pics also released:

sideshow.. hottoys... you paying attention yet?

Re: AVATAR

The environments look cool and all, but are there any shots of the actual main characters? Why would HT or SS pay any attention until then?

Re: AVATAR

watch the cameron 'speech.'

I got a big 'nerd' vibe from cameron there in the good sense, the guy seems to invest his heart and soul into creating his universes, not only that but he seems to be able to articulate the scope of his vision quite well.

I'm a bit worried about the CGI-fest, but I'm also interested in seeing how such a full-scale use of new CGI tech will be utilized by one of our best action/adventure/sci-fi directors of all time. He may be getting older but it doesn't seem like hes lost the capacity to dream up big and interesting stuff. As for why the film is called 'avatar' I'd really like to see how that's played out.

And those pics are stunning.

licensee always get early peeks at designs. you dont mean they should wait until those designs were released to the general public, and THEN decide if they want to pursue the license, do you?

After all the work they put into the Sam Worthington sculpt. they better get Avatar :monkey1

what work put into sam sculpt? he was a no name nobody to hottoys, hence they relegated the sculpting work to a 2nd tier sculptor. i dont think they will make the same mistake now when given the chance. sam's star is getting brighter by day.

the avatar has double meanings - the avatar you will see used in the film by the character, and then you could say sam worthington's character is our (the audience) avatar into the alien world on the screen. that's why the 3D format in this case suits the story perfectly. it'll immerse us more into the world.

Re: AVATAR

Looking forward to seeing this and Cameron's Battle Angel Alita! :rock :rock :rock

Re: AVATAR

That teaser trailer was... not what I expected...

I didn't mean it in a bad way and I'm definitely interested in the film but it also could have been a Hitchhikers Guide trailer.

Now then, I'm going to watch it again :D

Re: AVATAR

judging by the lame fonts used and that it says summer 2009, when in fact the film will be out in december, i'd have to say... fake.
