I thought he was doing Frankenstein?
Just glad he's finally getting something else on the screen. Unfortunately he recently stated that his ATMOM project is effectively dead.
I thought he was doing Frankenstein?
That is an utter and complete bummer. Someone needs to bring Lovecraft to the big screen... I thought Del Toro would be perfect.
<<< I think this refers specifically to his ATMOM screenplay so I'm not sure what it gives away about Prometheus. Clearly they both deal with a cosmic horror.Spoiler:a near-identical 3rd act "twist."
Del Toro = I'm in.
Does this sound like Evangelion or does it sound like Evangelion?
I don't understand how they can come this close to Evangelion without lawyers involved. I'm interested in seeing how it will differ.
I wonder if they'll go full CG with the monsters and robots. I would love if they go a traditional route and put Doug Jones in a monster suit. Doug Jones inhabiting a Kaiju monster would be magical.

Because Super Robot Mechas vs. Monsters existed way before Evangelion...
Tetsujin 28, Getter Robo, Devilman, Grendizer, Mazinger Z, Combattler, Gaiking, GoLion, Voltron, etc...
So all of those are about giant creatures attacking earth and specially trained soldiers that are neurologically attached to mechanical suits fighting.them? And the suits are ancient and barely understood?

Evangelion is a great series indeed, but it borrows heavily from older manga and anime...
It’s been nearly four years since Guillermo del Toro’s last directorial project (Hellboy II), but he recently wrapped a brand new directorial effort: Pacific Rim. The film involves “the finest ____ing monsters ever committed to screen” and centers on a battle between ginormous creatures and human-manned robots. Del Toro recently talked about building several blocks of Hong Kong for the film only to demolish them all, and now the first image from Pacific Rim has landed online. While it’s not exactly a still from a scene, it gives us our first look at star Idris Elba in his Pacific Rim costume, and we start to get a feel for the atmosphere that del Toro will be bringing to the project. Though he only recently entered post-production, I expect we’ll get our first look at footage at Comic-Con in a couple of weeks.
