Im guessing by most accurate sculpt they mean closest to the statue that sits outside Toho's studios and not exactly accurate to one specific suit. But the closest it looks to any suit is '89 and yeah its really not close lol.

that statue is HUGE 5’L x 2’W x 3.5’H

sov003_3.jpg

Shipping Weight: 510.06 pounds, not actual weight of course, but still the DIM weight is staggering, especially compared to the X-Plus Gigantic 1995 Meltdown who's shipping weight is Shipping Weight: 4.20 pounds.

This statue is certaintly the official Godzilla monument.

rather have a hollow vinyl X-PLus sculpt @ this scale though.

Picked up a few new toys. Really love the Jakks Big G. I modded some of his spikes to be larger. Also filled in all the gaps and seams as well. (mouth, arms, legs, screw holes, 2nd to last tail gap) then repainted and coated with a finish. No articulation except for the tail hinge now but I'm fine with that after how he turned out.

Hey thanks guys, appreciate that. I really want some kind of base or substrate actually just to make it look more appealing on my cheap Home Depot shelf lol

Man that does look outstanding! I've been planning for months to do that to mine assuming I ever find one. Heh.

Zillafan--could you post some more pics of your modded Jakks Godzilla. Its superb. I really want to do the same with mine but I want to get the Art of Destruction book first so I can get some good, clear pics of Godzilla and all of the details/features of the design. Did you use Aves sculpt to lengthen the spines?

Just saw this at BBTS for anybody that has the money. I realize what it is supposed to be, a copy of the Kawakita statue, but the description says that it is the most accurate Godzilla sculpt available. I can't even tell what year it's supposed to be. 54? Anybody?

For that price? I'll pass. Especially since it doesn't look all that great.

I have a couple more pics on my phone I can post (at work now) As far as how I made the spikes, I really just built them up from the existing ones then sort of made them come to a couple tips at the top. I didn't really reference anything, it was kind of impulsive to just dig in haha. I'm not experienced with clay at all. Still may do a few more on the sides when I get some time and think out the est to make them pointier. Also tempted to beef up his teeth.

I used a generic Sculpy type clay for the spikes that doesn't get totally hardened in air (baking clay), but it stiffens enough so that it literally feels just like the originals. I also put a few layers of Mod Podge on them then paint, which also made them stiff, then just used a clay tool to add some creases and stuff. Touching them you can hardly tell they are a different material. I used a hard forming silicon to fill the legs and arm gaps and prevent them from moving, then just left enough space to work modeling clay in. Miliput would probably be great for this but the stuff I used did the job and was cheap.

This is what I used to fill all the gaps, holes and seams. Air drying clay, then a few more coats of mod podge and paint makes it really strong.

Again I'm a noob, but it was easy enough and I think it came out pretty cool. Definitely post yours when you get around to it!

This is also when I had painted him more of a green, but ended up redoing him much more grey. I'm color blind so getting it right is kind of a crap shoot lol

Nice custom work! :hi5:

Thanks! No kidding about that figure. It's really kind of annoying how expensive Godzilla stuff is. I don't mind paying more for quality work, but 3000.00 for something like that is just ridiculous. I know Godzilla is hot right now and that doesn't help, but there's just a lot of stuff that's way overpriced.

great job zilla fan. This is pretty much what i had planned and decided not to do. Your pics have motivated me to pick this up and have a go with it.

I am going to fill the gaps, build up the spikes, add additional scale detail on his legs and i plan on cutting/breaking the arms at the elbow and repositioning them using apoxie sculpt, in a more aggressive pose (bent elbow)..athletic pose, similar to the Maquette that was shows a while back. and then finally repaint.

Good job thanks for showing heling me visualize what i wanted to do. u did a hell of a job.

P.S. i really like that wave picture behind Godzilla.

Thanks again. Yeah I was hesitant at first because it's just a cool toy and I didn't want to botch it up. lol It's one of those things that you just have to let go of any reservation and just go for it. Sounds like you are really going to go for it, can't wait to see what you come up with.

I may hold off on my second until I see what you did with the pose, really sounds like a great idea. The Great Wave photo is one of my fav prints, seemed fitting to be behind the big guy. :)
