The Untouchables
Highest grossing gangster movie of all time according to Guinness

It is a good movie (of course the train station scene! :horror) but it is decidedly 80's, it doesn't translate as well as other films in the genre.

Goodfellas... Of course GF2 IMO is better then GF1, well, at least I see them as being neck and neck... I just love the Vito/Deniro flashback stuff.

A Bronx Tale is one of my personal favorites too.

...And what's so bad about the 80's? .

One of the most memorable moments in movies were they have the shoot out at the train station.

I didn't think I'd have to defend an movie that got Connery his Oscar.

Miller's Crossing

Though I also loved Goodfellas. Also, the Departed, Donnie Brasco, and Reservoir Dogs (though all 3 are sort of gangster movies, and sort of cop movies).

There isn't anything wrong with the 80's, nor the film, nor Connery; for me it just isn't a timeless film; or what I would consider the "best."

Untouchables does seem a bit dated somehow. I enjoy the film, but agree with LOTR that it doesn't feel as important as some of the other films that we are talking about. However, I also feel that Untouchables is more a "cop" movie than a gangster movie. Shouldn't a "gangster movie" be one that focuses at least half of its time on the gangsters?

After Godfather 1 & 2, Goodfellas is the BEST gangster/mafia film ever made. After only by a nose.

Honorable mentions:

Donnie Brasco
Carlito's Way
Casino
The Departed

All others are imitators.
