has a 97% rating on the rotten tomatoes meter. i didnt know what the heck this film was, but several customers at blockbuster kept asking the clerk for it so i asked him what the movie was and he recommended it. came back the next day and got a copy and it's friggin awesome. i've ordered the blu ray on amazon yesterday. :p

If you are not the type to shy away from black and white films, check out these "godfathers" of The Godfather.....

Angels With Dirty Faces
On The Waterfront
Key Largo
White Heat
Kiss Of Death
Little Caesar
The Petrified Forest

One of the best films of last year.

I really like Public Enemies to be honest. But I've got alot of these toted 'as the best' movies at home, and have been meaning to watch them all for AGES.

A thread about gangster movies ....

And nobodies mentioned the 1971 original "Get Carter".

Unforgiveable.

Goodfellas number uno
Carlito's way
Casino

Just ordered Prophet, have high hopes for this.

I'd say Goodefellas too. That was the first gangster movie that really caught my attention when I was younger... too young to really appreciate the Godfather movies. Now I like both, but Goodfellas is just more in your face mafia brutality where as the Godfather seems more refined and civil, at least as refined and civil as you can be when you're talking about committing murder.

I still like both (for different reasons) and wont flip the channel if either are on.

History of Violence and Eastern Promises. Last man Standing is a good one too.
