At least the title is better this time. After finishing my first diorama, I'm gonna take a crack at a scratchbuilt droid. Treadwell seems easy enough and although I'm sure he's been done, I couldn't find it, so here we go.

Back to the left over foam board/cardboard/styrofoam pile. I'm just eyeballing it for the scale, but it should be close.

Hey....I thought I was building him.

Go to the bathroom for just a sec....If I didn't know any better, I'd think this guy likes to tinker.

I have nothing around the house that will pass for wheels, so I guess it's off to Home Depot to see what may do the trick. Hope you like...It's no fancy spaceship cockpit, but.............:lol

thats looking looking great, your skill is really good. I am surprised your making it out of cheaper material like foam again. Plastic board such as styrene would last much longer and be much sturdier. Your skill deserves better material man!

Cool stuff man I love that droid. I think you should do an R1 Unit next. Then we would have the entire purchase the droids line up.. V Cool.

:)

Happy Tuesday anyone who's looking. I have 1 update pic tonight. I painted him up and gave him some arms (not movie accurate, just some parts that look appropriate). I think he's still a little dark though. I'm going to take Progmatinee's advice and start dabbling in some better materials. I am happy with the body on this, even if it is foamboard, but I did buy some sheet styrene today for the head.

Any comments are welcome.

I love it and like Prog says styrene is amazing and you will not regret using it.

I hope you dont mind but I have lightened up your pic as you can't see those amazing arms you have built!!!! They are fantastic.

What did you use???

Treadwell is coming along pretty well. Short of making some leaky seals and a little dirt on the shaft, the main part is done. I did end up re-priming him and re-painting so he was lighter, then I dirtied him all up again:lol. Added some O-rings and hoses to the shaft. I have two arms that move (courtesy of whatever droid just came with the latest Hasbro Jawa) and two stationary arms (courtesy of MPC. They are parts from a 1/24 Lumina). Hoses are an ear plug cord. The shaft can spin 360 degrees and the head will be able to spin 360 degrees. I'm hoping to be able to pull off moving the "eyes" up and down as well. No moisture vaporator for him to fix yet. For the head, I'm waiting for some 1/6 binoculars to come so I can build around them. It was the only thing I could think of. I think the scale looks good from the few reference photos I have.

Thanks for the compliments on the build so far.

COMPLETE! And all told, not too bad. I'll be curious to see if I ever get more than Luke or Leia, and everything is displayed together, how it will hold up. Here are the final update pics. I may try to get some better shots (not in the basement) tomorrow. My photography skills still plague me. First 2 are the reference shots I was using. I combined elements of both for mine.

Here he is. Doesn't seem like there a lot of love for this guy, but I don't see a Sideshow release ever, so he will do. Sorry for the limited "action" shots. My shop is such a cluster, I only have so much room.

In conclusion for this project, thanks to Progmatinee for prompting me to start using styrene instead of cardboard. I kept the foamboard body on Treadwell, but got some etched metal for the vent covers and styrene for the head. It was easier to use than I thought. And using the binoculars as a base for the head worked wonderfully. In hindsite, I probably could've done without it,but live and learn. So enjoy the photos. I have 1 diorama and 1 scratchbuilt droid under my belt. My first kitbash I think will be a Biggs. I have another droid in mind and possibly another diorama.

G'night from the east coast.

That is one nice looking droid you have there.Makes me want to try tackling one for myself.Great job dude!
