Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Thanks so much for posting this how-to! Its funny but seeing some of the "magic" behind the pieces makes it even more impressive.

Don't know when I'll take a crack at it, but I really want to do one of these :rock :rock :rock

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

I will do some more step by steps later but the booth is nearly there... Still drying but it does not stop me playing :)

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

hot dam*, candied ham that looks awesome!

I want one, but I've got too much on my plate right now. The wife is very understanding to my Star Wars fetish... but I don't want to find her breaking point!

Thanks for doing this tutorial... I'm taking notes. You sir are an asset to the hobby.

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

:clap:clap:clap As always very impressive. I love the internal lighting, it makes a huge improvement. Perhaps a red or yellow temperature bulb though?

I'm guessing that's drywall compound on MDF, or is it something else? (nevermind, I went back and saw you use plaster)

Do you have to prep the surface or anything to make it stick/keep it from flaking off?

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

cheers guys, yeah I wack a healthy plop of PVA in it... I will put some more steps up in a bit :)

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Right where did we get to...... ahh the window.. You really dont have to do this if your back wall is thick.. I just wanted to try it. I wanted the reveal to be quite deep to give the impression the wall is uber thick... so I have cut up some thin mdf and I am gonna glue gue it in at an angle.. then with a similar piece place it under and draw the angle on and wack it all together... good technical term..

notice how perfect and precise I am being? making sure there are no gaps and yes I am lying just throw it on there... the best bit is NEXT...

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

ooowww its messy time!!! as Kamandi said I am using dry way jointing compound... why? Because its the best? NO. Because it's all I have :) I am as I said putting a large helping ( spoon full) of PVA in Why? Because I want to! And it also helps it stay stuck to the walls when it dries instead of all cracking off in a big powdery mess.

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Now mixing the filler is great! I mix mine so that its not runny but not dry basically so it holds it shape.... then as Cbob says SLAP IT ON.. you can use any thing to put it on from your credit card to a birthday card... dont worry to much about it. The filler dries quick quick if you dont put it on to thick 1mm-2mm.
Dont forget that it will need to not too thin as we want to hack back into it to show where the plaster has fallen off.

:) oww its like icing the christmas cake AV IT!!!!!!!!

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

so thats kind of that bit done... when its dry give a bit of a sand to get rid of any huge bits that look wrong.

Then slap a heavily watered down drop of emulsion on it to seal it and you are done.

Its on to the painting and detailing next.

Re: 1/6 Cantina Booth

Right the lines around the arch... I want mine to match up with the other one and the height of the line really is up to you but mine are about 13cm up from the base so I have marked on where they start.
