Not to me; I loved that movie! It was the first (and only movie) that I saw with John C. Reilly, and I was shocked with how good he was since everything he was in never appealed to me. Everyone was great though, and it was very true to life. I love intimate movies like Carnage, Repulsion, Rear Window, The Conversation, Sunset Drive, and Locke. There's so many awesome movies with characters confined to a single room. That's one of the reasons why "The Fly" was one of my favorite Breaking Bad episodes. I'm always a drama guy first...except when it comes to BvS, I'm making an exception because Batman LOOKS AWESOME!

I had seen JCR in other movies as well, but mostly as the "funny guy", and not much more. Here he was really good, and I loved how he slowly dropped his "Flanders" act to reveal a machisimo dude. Waltz was great as the ******* as well. As for the rest of the films you listed, I've not seen them yet, but I have them on my "to watch" list, especially Locke (I've been on a Hardy kick these last few days, and I've watched pretty much all his major stuff, from Child 44 to Legend and Drop).

Fun Fact: I only found out about the movie from searching the "Carnage" tag on Tumblr. I was looking for Cletus Kasady/Carnage art and the like, and I stumbled upon it. I saw Waltz was in it, so I gave it a go.

PS: This isn't exactly a "confined space" film, but it features only 3 actors, so I guess it counts. I'm talking about Z for Zachariah, which I really liked, especially Robbie's performance. I was really surprised that she played a 17 year old girl so easily, especially since her role in Wolf was a 30-something grown and confident woman. Ejiofor and Pine were great as well.

Out of those 3 I've seen Babadook. I liked Babadook but not it's ending.

John C Reilly is awesome, surprised I didnt know about this film. It's on my list now, though.

Reilly actually started doing comedy late in his career, most of his work has been on the dramatic side, and he really is quite a talented actor. I was actually shocked when he started doing comedy, I had no idea just how funny he could be.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just added it to my watchlist! (Thank God for ImdB! It's so helpful! :lol) I'll check it out when I get a chance. 12 Angry Men is an awesome movie that I'd also recommend in that category. 12 Angry Men, Repulsion, and Rear Window are probably my three favorites in that category, but like I said, there's so many that I love.

P.S.

I meant Sunset Limited, not Sunset Lane. I don't know if it holds up, but it was the first (and only) HBO special that I saw, so maybe I was just impressed by the level of quality for something on television. I remember really liking the acting though.

I know, right? When I want to watch a film, I go to imdb, search an actor/actress I like and bam! it's movie night. I remember seeing a vintage poster for "12 angry men" on an old school book. I'll be sure to give it a go. Repulsion I've heard of, but never got around to watching.

It's a psychological thriller (best watched alone in the dark) by the same director as Carnage—Roman Polanski. He's one of my favorite directors! Tell me what you think if you get to it!

Will do! I used to mix up Polanski with Copolla back in the day. Dunno why.

The Witch

Great cast, shot beautifully and feels very authentic. Unfortunately I did not find it scary at all though it does generate a broader tension. The lead girl is a very gifted actress.
It's less about the supernatural than about the paranoia a supernatural presence can generate in a group of people. And a goat named Philip that may or not be the devil.
If you can appreciate a verrrrry slow burn that leads to a very small (albeit beautiful) fire, give this a shot when you can watch it in your living room.

Deadpool - 8/10

He Never Died - 7.5/10

Thief - 7.5/10

The Fury - 7/10

Poltergeist (2015) - 3/10 - The original is a classic, well made flick that still holds up to viewings today without feeling dated. I don't see the need to remake it. And its hard to watch a remake and not keep thinking back to the original. Main point, the tree scene. In the original, the tree tried to eat the boy. In the remake, he is just tangled up in the branches. The rest of the movie is blah, and then over. The main head scratcher is the dad lost his job, mother doesn't work, yet they were able to purchase this nice big house, they made a big point of how they have no money, including comedy scene of multiple cards being declined, house gets obliterated and at the end, are again shopping for nice big houses. Yea this movie just sucked.

The Witch 8/10

Beautifully filmed and acted its a movie that sinks in deeper well after viewing it, and wont be forgotten anytime soon. I'd say its better to sell this movie to someone as an intense family drama set in the 1600s that eventually takes a turn into horror territory but not in the typical sense. No jump scares, or overly violent imagery, just a maddening descent into hysteria and evil. I've always loved the idea of witches and I think this movie nails down all those things that frightened me as a child. The witch is hardly the focal point of the film, but the film does recall some classic imagery that we all know and love (fear?) about witches. By the final shot a sense of dread and evil is deeply embedded into the minds of the audience. And as a bonus the score equally as disturbing. Would definitely recommend for those with patience looking for food for thought. Certainly not for those who find themselves coming out of horror movies saying "THat wasn't even scary" "That's how it ends?"

7 out of 10 for me... I bolded what I really agreed with. This was beautifully filmed and well acted. I liked the story and feel of the film... I love horror films and I may have been a bit over excited for this one.. But I fault the trailer which had quotes like "one of the most disturbing films" and "it's like watching something that should not be seen" So I got myself psyched up for something that this film was not. Don't get me wrong it's dark and has a feeling of dread but obviously some of the glowing reviews about the intensity of this film were a bit overstated IMO. I may enjoy this more with a second viewing.. As you, a bit of time to sink in, helped improved my initial thoughts about this film... I also really had to think about how I would have liked this one if none of the hype was out there. Had I seen this in January with no expectations I think I would have been a very happy horror fan... The director lives up to the hype... The film while good did not.

^ if you plan on seeing it in theaters be prepared for many people voicing there hatred for it afterword. In my theater many people booed and shouted they wanted their money back, which is an oddly a common thing for the more subtle horror movies out there (even for krampus, which I found to be a satisfying experience). I find myself looking for any movie similar to the witch to watch now, which is a sign of a good movie. Sometimes a movie gets in your head and you want to visit a similar experience with different movie but it always seems next to impossible with something this unique. If anyone has any suggestions let me know

Give Antichrist a chance. It use to be on Netflix and still might be. It reminded me of this film in subject matter (loss of a child) pace and tone. Be warned it earns its Unrated rating (real sex scene and some cringe worth violence).... Far from perfect but like I said it reminded me of The Witch in tone. No witches in this one though. I also like the Witch much more.. But It did make me think of this film while watching it.

The Way Back After narrowly escaping from a wretched World War II Siberian labor camp, a small band of multinational soldiers desperately undertakes a harrowing journey to traverse Siberia, the Gobi Desert and the Himalayas on foot.

7/10

A Field In England 9/10

An intense thriller about a gang of guys who decide to ditch out on a battle and head for beers. Along the way they meet up with a mysterious fellow looking for buried treasure and this all gets mixed with some form of shrooms. Its shot in all black and white and delivers some beautiful imagery that makes it seem just as exciting to look at as colored movies. I was afraid the plot would be an overly complicated thriller just based on the setting but it turns out its a fairly simple story with some humor thrown into the mix. Memorable characters and exciting situations make this movie pretty special. Most of the story and character gets thrown out the window in the final third and gets traded for a more visually and auditory visceral experience which I found to be exciting. As a plus I was stoned throughout and the movie flowed quite smoothly. At about 90 minutes long the movie never drags or becomes incomprehensible, even with the shrooms involved.

Whatever you do... DO NOT give Antichrist a chance. It is the most pretentious film I have ever seen.

Damn talking fox.

Just got back from seeing The Witch. 8/10. Super creepy and a decent suspense/horror pic. I am a big fan of movies that let the viewer is their imagination instead of cheesy CGI especially in the horror genre. I don't think I will look at goats or rabbits the same way! Def check it out
