Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - !!SPOILERS!!

I was watching Avatar on TV earlier and couldn't help thinking that as nice as it is, the CGI really looks fake a lot of times and I don't know what they did on Godzilla but he and the MUTOs are the most alive looking CGI creatures I've ever seen, even their movements don't feel like they're doing things that could only happen through cgi.

Funnily enough I just read an excerpt of an interview James Cameron did a little while ago where he said that you HAVE to watch movies with CG characters in them in 3D in order for them to look real or 2D animations next to humans that exist in 3 dimensions will always look fake. That's funny since I never heard any director complain about that for characters like Davey Jones or Kong. But suddenly people start noticing that the Na'vi aren't that perfect and Cameron rushes to blame it on 2D presentations of the movie.

You know, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there's an extra on the 3D disc with settings instructions.

Nah, just got busy with the magazine reboot, advertising, marketing, etc., and switching back to print from online is a bit more time consuming for compilation, since it's not just coding stuff to HTML, but making sure it all lines up properly in a 56-72pg document. A pain in the ass as one error can throw off everything.

I think the "weight" they gave these creatures was tremendous in making these guys feel realistic. A lot of times film makers just have the monsters move slow to give them that feel. They did that here, but with the added camera work, you really felt their bulk. So good.

Their sounds too I think. I talk a lot of that scene where Godzilla and momma Muto first engage each other and that thunderous THUD occurs. How many times has that happened in Godzilla films and either there was no considerable sound ir if there was it was a sound that made no sense.

G2000 Japanese version: Much more serious movie, still a slow movie when no monsters but the battle with Orga-UFO still great. Video improved only a slight bit.

GMK: Godzilla's pot belly looks stunning in 1080p.

Ouch..... Well like I have said since it's release... They advertised a great Godzilla only film and then gave us a completely different movie that was much different in tone from the trailer... Oh well at least it did well enough for them to green light a sequel.

That article is a misleading point though. Yes, this movie should have done Avengers numbers at the BO due to opening weekend, but despite the Dropoff from opening weekend, it still did over half a billion worldwide and was an overall success. Clearly the actual
movie was good enough, but there is a lesson to take, it should be clear now that people wanted a movie along the lines of the trailers, so if they're smart, they'll craft the sequels towards that and learn from this. Batman Begins is a better film overall than Godzilla, but in it's own franchise it was just a good start to a great trilogy, I have hopes that this series will just get better with each installment.
