I'm kind of glad that Marvel doesn't own the Fantastic Four or X-Men right now. Otherwise it'd be hard to picture them fast tracking the spectacular GOTG which might not have existed otherwise.

Very true. In fact, I doubt seriously they would have placed such an emphasis on guys like Iron Man and Thor upfront if they had Wolverine and Spidey in their back pocket. That would probably mean less inspired casting for Stark, which would probably mean a completely different vibe and direction for the entire Marvel Studios Universe. Marvel Studios is doing a great job with what they've got, and they have more than enough characters and teams to keep pumping out great movies for years. Fox has a great opportunity itself, to really focus in on these particular franchises. Hopefully they'll end up doing so with FF in a way that does justice to the teams Lee/Kirby and Byrne wrote about at some point.

To answer your 1st question....yes. I'm too lazy to go back and find the rants some peeps were laying down because some members here hated Johnny being casted as a black man. Without a doubt there was a major **** storm here when the casting decision was announced. I'm not calling anyone out but there's no denying it happened.

As for RDJ and Iron Man...are you kidding me? I don't know how many Iron Man comics you have read but Tony has always been egotistical, self centered, and arrogant as a character. I've read Iron Man comics since the late 70's and his character is perfectly portrayed by RDJ. RDJ has brought a roguish charm to the character but that is how he has been written over the span I have been reading Iron Man. This was just a case of perfect casting by Marvel Studios. I have no idea how this topic is even relevant to my post. RDJ looks and acts like Iron Man. There is no controversy with the casting and no spitting in the face of comics continuity or history with his taking up the role of Iron Man.

If you want the new FF movie be good and want to give it the benefit of the doubt...no problem. I'm not hating on you. I personally won't waste my time seeing it. I don't like the cast and have no desire to sit through another craptastic FF movie.

Lastly, I'm not sure why you quoted my post. I named no one in it, nor was I responding to you personally.

This is a discussion board, that's why I replied to you.

Tony Stark was never the snarky, quip spewing comedy relief character in the comics or cartoons like he is in the MCU. Robert Downey is playing himself. Marvel has basically turned him into a Spiderman like character, all the mannerisms and dialogue delivery is all Robert Downey. Go watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and tell me what exactly he's doing different.

The cartoons now all have him acting like RDJ, and he's even more like RDJ in the comics, though not all the way. I can't say that's a bad thing, as I never cared much for comic Stark pre-RDJ.

RDJ certainly goes over the top with the character but he exhibits all of Tony's core traits. Arrogant, self centered/absorbed, egotistical, and cocky. The quips are RDJ but if you remove all those other characteristics, you lose Tony Stark's character. RDJ does give us a little extra but it stays within Tony Stark's character.

The reason I asked why you quoted me was because it seemed like you thought I was saying you were one of the members calling peeps racist. I want to be clear, I wasn't. I don't remember which members were jumping on other members and calling them racists. I just know it happened because it got crazy here when the cast was revealed.

Enjoy the FF movie when it comes out. I won't be spending a dime or my time seeing it.

I know Iron Man hasn't been good for a long while but when David Michelinie, Romita Jr, and Bob Layton had their run on Iron Man, that book was awesome. They nailed the Tony/Iron Man character and gave us a great run. I'll never forget reading those books as a kid and loving what they did with the character. I know it was a long time ago but those were some fantastic stories that gave us a great take on Tony and Iron Man.

I can agree with you on the Robert Downey thing.

Yea, there was a misunderstanding, I didn’t know you were talking about when the casting was first announced.

When I heard about the reboot, my first thought on casting Johnny was. Michael B. Jordan. So they did me a service.

What is CE?

that's funny, as I watching Chronicle my thought was Jordan would be a perfect Johnny storm lol I walked out of the theater and said if they make another FF they need to cast Jordan in it.

Haha yeahhhh. Just make them all black female lesbians. Appeal to the modern audience! All or nothing baby!

That's funny, when I got done watching "FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer" I said if they make another FF they should make it suck even worse than that one. Called it!

;)

Back when the FF first came out the Thing looked like a big orange turd. I think this is paying homage to that by making the film into a big turd.

Oh Yeah, the alcoholism story line, Dreadnoughts, Spy-Master, IM's battle with the Hulk.......that was an EPIC run on Iron Man. To this day it's my favorite run on the character. The story and art were top notch.
