I like how this thread is more tame now that the movie is out. Seems like people talking about the movie in a proper manner rather than insulting . I guess since the movie wasn't perfect to the eyes of many we can see eye to eye on some things.

ASM2 is not a flop- but it will fall far short of the blockbuster Marvel and Sony was hoping for(as are most films)
I think ASM3 has little pent up demand and enthusiasm going for it....

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I was bummed at the end though as I'm sure a lot of folks were. The IMAX 3D was AMAZING. If you've never experienced the IMAX 3D then you are missing out imo. They really have perfected it. The Time Squares scenes were visually stunning. Electro was a BAD A$$.

Finally got around to seeing this and I have a mixture of hope and despair. Spiderman suited up was truly amazing. Garfield works alot better than McGuire did in action, although there's also an incredible amount of CGI to back him up. His zippy one-liners sealed the deal for me. I just don't know how well this will wear over time without a truly memorable storyline. If only the rest of the movie had it together!

- Peter Parker's story has way too much drama, miss the lighter touch of the first two Raimi films.
- The chemistry was great between Garfield and Emma. The Stacy phantom guilt trip was laughable. Is he going to see Gwen shaming him when he's on a date with Mary Jane? Or worse, a Stacy ghost tag-team?
- This movie should have been about Harry. While Electro looked pretty cool doing his Dr Manhattan takes Manhattan schtick, he had the motivation of a cartoon character (not too far from another Killian) and Foxx's crappy psuedo comedic take made me realize that he wasn't even trying to create something that had value for the over 13 crowd (same for Giamatti).
- Oscorp is now a supervillain assembly-line factory that doesn't make any real sense in its own world. Every single villain seems to have some connection to it, in it, through it, of it... inbred like some redneck family reunion. Did I miss something where they explained the real purpose of making an iron rhino suit so an idiot criminal can use it? Why a rhino and why Aleksei? I know the answer is moot because everything here is surface level save for Harry Osborn's issues.

Sidenote: Soundtrack
-Hans Zimmer has been in the spotlight for a few years now as the go-to soundtrack guy for all things Nolan and CBMs. I've come to the conclusion that he excels at conveying rising action, but with as little personality as possible in the CBMs. Gladiator and even Inception have loads of recognizeable and repeated themes compared to every single superhero film I've ever heard him score. I know he's supposed to be surrounded by a few more folks this time, but it still feels like his work. On a positive note, the high point for me was the final battle with Electro. I was hoping he'd carry the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" theme a bit longer than he did and that the film would have tried to tie in the rhyme with the action; what if Electro tried to drown Spidey in revenge for being waterhosed? Oh well. More missed opportunities.

Now ultimately, I'm glad I saw this Spiderman on screen and I hope against hope they can make a worthy Doc Ock for him. Raimi's version is the standard and they have a ton of work to do before they get close.

I just got back from seeing this. I know why they played up the Gwen/Peter connection so the ending would have a greater effect, but that was too much of the film for me. It was an ok movie to me. Not great and I wasn't wowed afterwards when leaving the theatre. I guess I was hoping for more and was sort of let down by it.

I come into this thread and I just feel like that happy guy who doesn't fit in because I was entertained immensely by ASM2. Hell, ebe Man of Steel, but I never read a superman comicbook a day in my life so Iwas just enjoying the fight scenes and seeing the guy from Boardwalk Empire kick some ass.

It's because the people that like something don't feel the need to repeat their feelings over and over and over and over and over again like those that don't like something. There are more people on here that loved this movie than didn't, it's just those that didn't are more vocal and like to remind us that they didn't like it.

I kind of liked it. There was just so much going on and so many sub plots that none of them ever really got to shine. It was too long with too many long conversations. I liked the first one better.

I saw this over the weekend with the GF. I loved the spidey scenes, but the on again/off again relation between Peter and Gwen was kinda annoying to go through. Yeah, I understand that's what real relationships would be like, but those scenes could have been replaced with developing the villians in the movie. Especially Green Goblin, who I felt, was shoehorned in the end. And that little tease with Rhino at the very end was a piss-off. I kinda wished they ended the movie with Peter sulking over Gwen and the Sinister Six ready to begin their rampage of NY.

Overall this was an ok Spider-Man movie, but I think I did like the first one better.

Yea. As Most others have said. the spidey scenes are the best with everything else in between not so much. I guess if they would drop the whole parent thing it would be fine. I know peters parents were agents of shield in the comics under command of nick fury and that would of been kinda cool to see but this sisnt the marvelverse its the spideyverse. I think this is the best spiderman we've gotten and he's better than tobey in every way but as a movie its just falls short. I enjoyed it but it wasnt epic like i wanted it to be and thats a damn shame coming from a huge spidey fan such as myself. I hope the tides turn soon. im sick of spidey getting the shaft lately.

Couldn't disagree more. The ending was so inspiring, heroic and uplifting. It showed him coming back from his emotional grief, moving on, and protecting the city he loves. He even threw in some typical Spider-Man comments and mannerisms (I can't remember exactly, but he did something with the megaphone and said something funny to Rhino). He wanted to show everyone that he's still Spider-Man and he will always be there. Then the cut to black with the theme coming full force and the logo appearing... perfect.

To end the film on such a downer with Peter simply grieving would've been a bad move. This is Spider-Man. We don't want a Dark Knight Batman depressing ending. We don't want our hero on the run. We don't want him emotionally traumatised. We don't want a hero that disappears for 8 years.

Spider-man's return was what was needed here. And an inspiring return it was.

In the last 5 mins of the movie he did sulk for 6 months and the Sinister Six did begin their rampage. But instead of whiny wimpy quitter crap we got a real true Superhero that realizes he has responsibility and is willing to take the pain, emotional and physical, to keep others safe and from mourning like he has to.

It was the entire lame erectile dysfunction plot of SM2 played out far better and in a matter of only 5 minutes.

Agreed. Love it or hate it its the best ending to a superhero movie to date imo.

The only thing that bugged me about the ending was the whole kid dressed as Spider-Man standing up to Rhino. It was really cheesy to me. Plus the cops are in the middle of a shootout, and people are standing around watching like it's the Red Sox and Yankees playing in the street. But I still loved seeing Spidey dust himself off and get back to being a hero.
