Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

I just think that when the poop hits the propeller, and let's say the Governor is not in a position of strength at that moment, that Merle will sense that like the snake he is and strike. I dont sense any great love for The Gov. from Merle.

Blood is thicker than Water, as they say.

If Merle takes the Governor out, particularly if he does so because the Governor weakens ... I could see Merle trying to continue where Governor left off. I don't think Merle would necessarily side with the Governor to take out Daryl ... but I do think he wants to be the Governor.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

Regardless of whether or not Merle were to step up for Daryl, I think the fact that he lied to the Gov about Michonne is going to trump everything.

Is the Michonne lie a big deal? Maybe? Has Merle lied to the Governor before? Unknown, but I suspect that Merle balances his survival chances "out there" with what he thinks the Governor should know. He's not going to get himself killed for the Governor. Merle is Merle's priority.

Would Merle sacrifice himself for Daryl? Something about this hard ass racist calling Daryl his baby brother makes me say yes.

If Michonne does something that really ticks off the Governor, I can see him getting downright evil/sadistic with Merle, maybe even something to entertain the masses. If Michonne would take out Andrea, or closet girl then Merle is going to pay, hard and slow.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

Nah, they were too paranoid to follow Michonne deeper into the woods. Didn't they call it the "red zone" or something because it was full of walkers?

I dont find it weird that they didnt know he was there, just a small shack in the middle of a Walker infested area. ...

I can live with that. I just thought they were more paranoid and would do a thorough search of the area.

No Spoilers since this is just a theory. As far as Merle goes, I have a feeling that he might actually kill the Governor at some point, or at least try to in defense of Daryl...

I can't see Merle as the martyr type, even for Daryl. He seems to be the older brother who always told Daryl what to do and controlled everything he did. I don't think Merle will be too happy with the fact that Daryl has since become a more independent thinker.

I think Merle cares about Daryl to a point. Though I don't see him directly sacrificing himself to save Daryl, I can see him trying to avenge him if anything happens to him.

All of these opinions make sense and I can see it going either way. Makes for an interesting 2nd half of the season since it's not that transparent. But I'm gonna stick with my theory since blood is thicker than water. Either way, I don't see Merle joining the group therefore I don't see him surviving this season unless he goes off on his own or disappears for future season cameos (which I think would be lame).

I so want to click on those spoiler boxes, but I dont want to ruin any of the surprises the show might have in store!

When the show goes on hiatus I think I will have to stay away fro this thread for fear of my resolve weakening.

Spoiler Spoiler:

They're irrelevant to the story. Who've you seen from Woodbury that we're invested in? The Governor and that scientist dude. Outside of that, nobody. That bow and arrow chick was an idiot so that's a no and Merle predates Woodbury so he doesn't count.

Spoiler Spoiler:

Woodbury's too big a risk. It needs to be fortified by many to be dependable and has far too many points of entry. Prison's a much safer place with hardened points to fall back to if/when breaches occur from either living or undead.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

Wasn't it crazy how they reacted to the news of Rick's group taking the prison? :lol

They were like ... "****! Who are these guys?"

I thought that was interesting. The Governor seemed genuinely surprised that a dozen people cleared the prison when his group couldn't.

I'm not sure the Governor's group is as strong as it looks. Rick has a small band of extremely battle-hardened people ... several of which are legit badasses. They've been roaming for the better part of a year. Daryl and Rick are as tough as they come. Glenn and Maggie -- hardly the toughest they've got -- took absolutely everything the Governor could dish out. Hershel is a grizzly old codger. Even Carl is formidable.

Meanwhile ... the Governor has a large group of pampered, subservient folk. He kills almost everybody with a spine. That girl with the bow on the wall was pathetic ... and I think she may be more representative than tough-guy Merle. Merle had a scout team looking for Michonne ... and had to scold one of them for "announcing to the world that he was wetting himself."

There are a lot of them ... but these are not hardened people.

I didn't get the sense that the Governor even tried though. More like he passed the option by Merle (who no doubt spent time there), who said it was impossible and went with option B, Woodbury.

I could see that. It wasn't clear whether they seriously considered the option and passed when they couldn't come up with a plan they thought would work ... or whether Merle just told him it was impossible and they moved on. I never figured the Governor to be the trusting type, though.

I MIGHT do that after the series ends, though I don't like paying big bucks for comics.

Compendium 1 is $60 at stores; BUT online at amazon, it would be half that price, probably cheaper now that the compendium 2 is out. You get issues 1-49. Quite the bargain, especially since Amazon might offer free 2-day shipping and it's a good read.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC ( Spoilers!!)

I don't see why the Governor's group couldn't clear the prison. Should have been easier to do that than killing all those national guard dudes.

Probably this^

Merle had a look and just said **** that for a game of soldiers.

I know, right? Maybe his forces weren't strong enough? Logistics weren't there at the time. I dunno.

Before they had Woodbury, they were probably fairly low on supplies. They might've been a smallish band that gathered more people as time passed. They also may be a tactically weak group.

Also ... walkers are immune to smooth-talking cult leaders. Can't smile and distract them while you sight-up their heads.
