JUst alittle question here, are the extras on this bluray set new ones or are this behind the scenes stuff we already saw on the extended versions?

Welcome to the board!! The extras are a combination of the special features that were available on the original Extended Edition DVD box sets, as well as the documentaries that were on the second release. Nothing new in terms of content, but this is the most complete collection of extras related to the Extended Editions. The special features that accompanied the theatrical releases are on the Blu-Ray set for the Theatrical Editions only though!

i have watched fellowhip and will watch towers this weekend. fellowship was absolutely gorgeous.

My set arrived the other day, from the UK. $25 cheaper then getting it locally, even with the postage.

So far I've only had a chance to have a quick look at a couple of scenes from FOTR, but even so it looks amazing. So much more detail and you can see much more of the background in 'dark places', plus Moria had none of the blocking/artifacting which is present on the DVD's.

For me personally I agree. These are my three favorite movies of all time.

As much as i am a Star Wars fan at heart since age 4...no other movie or movies in my lifetime have made me feel so emotional and cry as with the scene in FOTR where after escaping Moria with Gandalfs death burdened on their shoulders,we see Frodo turn to Aragorn with a tear running down his cheek....likewise in ROTK where at the films end with Shore's music eerily playing,we see Frodo say goodbye to the Hobbits at the Grey Havens....and as boarding the ship he again turns to them but this time smile....nothing in any movie has pulled me in more than these 2 scenes....i pray the Hobbit movies have something similiar, which i am sure they will.

Yeah, there are a few scenes in the movies that get me a bit teary eyed as well. Which is good that means the movie and the subject matter mean something to you. Thats just one of my most favorite things about LOTR. The subject matter hits home for me.

I remember seeing Return of the King for the first time and expecting to tear up a few times. I wasn't expecting that scene where Arwen has the vision of her son and turns back, and that got me emotional early on. (Probably because I had a two year old and a three month old at home.) I knew I was in for a long night.

One scene that really gets me in ROTK is right at the end with Elessar telling the Hobbits they bow to no one.

the lighting of the beacons is cool as well.

the scene where gandalf is talking to pippin about how this isn't the end, etc is a pretty powerful scene.

The hardest scene for me is the scene with Frodo boarding the ship, but he looks so tired and drawn before, and then when he turns to smile, he is his old self again. It's hard to watch the other Hobbits cry though. I always get chocked up.

It reminds me of my father when he passed. I was with him when he died and he had been sick for so long, and after he passed, he looked so peaceful.

Another hard scene is when Boromir dies. :(
