Company of the year is pretty much foregone im imagining.Could stay that way for some time too.
Seriously though. Tonner should do the gracious thing and request they be taken off the list.

Surprised not to see Minimates listed on the "low end" category. Or LEGOs or Kubricks, either. I guess that's mostly reserved for 6 inch toys, whereas "high end" seems focused on 12" or higher. If so, maybe that's a better way to break up the categories.

Chris Howes was a judge last year. All of last year's judges were asked back at the beginning of 2009 if they wished to judge again, and at that time he said he did. I haven't heard from him since, but I assume my emails on the updates are getting through to him since they aren't bouncing. It would be interesting to see if he votes, but I won't actually know because all the judges are assigned random numbers to place their vote, so I can't see who picked what. I'd be happy to drop him an email at the address I have for him on the subject of SC members money and see if he responds.

As to the situation with some collectors and he, I have only heard one side and not the other. If it it appears that he continues to not respond to the situation and make it right, then he won't get asked back for 2010 (which is going to be in just another 6 weeks or so when I start working the judges list again), but he was already a part of the process for 2009before this whole thing blew up.

You can continue to discuss Howes in this thread if you'd like, but that's my only statement on the matter.

I'm surprised not to see the 7" MGS figures from Medicom not on there.
Will they be up for next year's awards?

That's up to the judges - they do the nominations. I actually asked them a specific question around Medicom, because it seemed to me that there weren't enough of their products on the list in general, and I received very little feedback.

Medicom really seems to have lost a lot of ground in the 1/6 market... at least outside of Japan/HK. I know I used to consider them the best in the market, but now only have less than 10 figures in my collection.

Medicom just hasn't seemed concerned with keeping up with other companies.

It reminds me of McFarlane in some ways. Medicom set the bar for sixth scale figures several years ago, like McFarlane did in the mass market arena. But when the other companies responded and gained ground, eventually surpassing them in some instances, they didn't try to out do themselves - they just kept doing what they'd been doing. It hasn't worked out particularly well for McFarlane, but we'll see. Maybe Medicom will have better luck. Things have just gotten so damn competitive in that high end market these days.
