Sorry if you've already posted it, but did you like what you heard of the new stuff?

i am waiting for the album to soak it all in... my only expectation is that they have remained passionate towards their craft. what was, can never be... all i expect from them, or any artist, is honesty, vulnerability and a glimpse inside. their career was never a smooth one, and their songwriting always reflected it... with all they have experienced, the rebirth of Alice in Chains has the potential for greatness.

Looking forward to Alice in Chains for sure, but really looking forward to the new Breaking Benjamin album next month!

I just heard the new Benjamin song yesterday and was NOT impressed. And I've liked quite a bit of their stuff so far. It just seemed so bland and tuneless. Hopefully the rest of the album will be better.

Yeah, the new song took a few listens for me to get into. Diggin it now, but hope the other songs are better.

Best Soundgarden album IMO is SuperUnknown, with my favorite track on that album being 4th of July probally..so many good songs on that one.Jesus Christ Pose is another good song.Anything after SuperUnkown, i found hard to get into..Pretty Noose was alright but..meh.

I remember enjoying this album when i was 14yrs old.

I actually prefer Badmotorfinger and their earlier stuff on Louder Then Love to Superunknown now. Probably because I got sick of listening to that album as much as it was playing on the radio, MTV, and my CD player at the time.

I can agree with you there, i hate when i like something that gets way too much over play..though it only seemed like Black Hole Sun got the most plays on the radio back then, and i didn't really like that song much at all.

I think long hair suits Chris Cornell more.Seems like most women i talked to think the same as well.

When Layne Stanley died, Alice In Chains did as well.

On this rare occasion we actually agree on something! :lol

I've heard AIC cover bands that sound better :(. I really started losing interest in AIC anyway on the self titled album, when Cantrell started taking over vocally. His solo stuff was just crappy AIC wannabe ^^^^. Saw him perform with Metallica waaaaaaaaaay back during the ReLoad tour... f'in painful. :lol Which is why I suspect he reformed AIC. But with that said, there's just no edge to it. It's like "happy metal" without Staley's grungy vocals and dirty lyrics. It's like a Boca burger. In the end, yes, it's still a burger, but there's just no meat to it anymore.

If you're looking for a band that has that "oldschool" AIC feel, check out the now defunct Dropbox. It's a shame they broke up. :lol

You do realize that Cantrell wrote ALMOST every single AIC song by himself, don't you? Layne co-wrote a few, and the other members are credited with a handful, but the fact is, no Jerry Cantrell, no AIC.

Layne overshadows Cantrell's contribution because of how distinct and prominent his voice is in the songs he sang on.

Layne was an incredible talent. I loved his vocals. But musically, Jerry deserves far more credit for their sound. And the only reason I make that point is because I think it's stupid to refuse to listen to their new material because Layne isn't singing it. They're a talented band and they deserve a shot at doing whatever they want to do. That's all I'm saying. Not taking anything at all away from Layne or his contribution to the band.

this is news to me. I love me some Alice in Chains. "Down in a Hole" is one of my favorite songs, along with "Take me Home" off of Jar of Flies.

I had real low expectations, until I heard the songs. Unlike Chinese Democracy, this is worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't saying you were wrong, just commenting on how Layne's contribution made his part in everything more prominent, a lot of people remember Layne's voice and if you didn't follow closely enough, you'd think he was the prominent element of AIC and not realize how big Cantrell was. For a long time I never realized how much Rooster was really Cantrell's piece with Layne's voice giving it the power it needed.

 Who said I didn't listen to it? I gave it a shot, both songs and found them lacking. Again, it's like "happy metal." The current band lacks Staley's growling screams and what's there, at best, sounds like an impersonation of his oddly "high to almost off-key low" vocals. If you re-read what I wrote, I didn't say it wasn't Alice In Chains. The sound is there musically. Vocally, it's impotent. I was never a fan of Cantrell and again, lost interest on the self titled album because most of the songs there he sang lead. He'd do more justice to AIC by creating a new band instead of trying to capitalize off of what was, because what was will never be again.

It's like the Doors whose current line-up lacks both Morrison and Densmore. I go back to my veggie burger comment. Sure the sound is there, but it's missing that meat that makes it whole.

its a fine line. Im typically an adamant that the loss of a major player should result in a new band/name, but I think this one is justified.
Not sure if anybody saw this line-up tour a few years back,, but I was able to see them. Didnt care much at all at the time cause I figured AIC was dead as well, but I was able to go to the show for free and was unexpectedly blown away. The new frontman does Layne justice IMO. Of course its not Layne, but their replacement pick is great.

Id compare it to Pink Floyd moving forward with the same name even tho without Waters. HUGE loss, but the result was comparable enough to continue IMO.

Love both new singles, but I guess Im one of the few that prefers "A Looking In View" to Check My Brain. .... although they both kick ass.
Seems like its gonna be an awesome album...... :monkey1

Agree 100%. It may not be original Alice, but it's a very fine version thus far, so I'm OK with no name change.
