Anyone else getting the DS Mego Retro Apes?

I came whisper close to getting them in Tokyo over New Year's but in the end chickened out. You know I'm regretting that now. Hopefully the next time I go back, they'll still be there!

Sticks, I don't plan on buying the repros. I am just not satisfied with the poseability of the Mego. I plan (someday) to make my own 8 inch poseable figure male and female...just have to study how...the only good thing about Megos are the size, but that makes customizing them even more difficult than 1/6 scale. I have so many dreams...so much to do, so very little time...and they are usually ape related.

I just want the repros because I had them all as a kid and the nostalgia value is high. I have Capt. Kirk and the Klingon and it's like time traveling to 1975. Wish I could get Spock, McCoy and Scotty now.

Seeing Cornelius and his jaunty lipstick was a blast from the past, too.

Go for it the Star Trek figures are inexpensive to get these days.

See, I never grew up with the originals, so there is no nostalgia for me. I only work on them because they need to be more screen accurate and the lipstick really bugs me!!

I can completely understand that. But they're a throwback to the days when toys were just toys and "close enough" was... well... close enough.

But I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't want an 8-inch Zira as cool looking as the one you made. I wish someone would do some really snazzy figures in that scale.

Thanks but it's more a matter of availability in my case. Kirk and Klingon were easy to find here in Japan, but Mr. Spock seems to have never made the leap across the Pacific. I saw Uhura, who I dearly love, but without Spock and McCoy I really can't see buying any of the secondary bridge crew. I could eBay and all that but I'm trying to break that particular addiction and get my credit card debt back under control at the same time!

Oh well...

I rewatched TV series "the Surgeon" a few nights ago. Galen's ex-girlfriend is really settling for less with that doctor she was going out with. He's so gruff compared to Galen. She seems pretty bitter about their breakup, too. (I need to get a life!!)

Jess, did you know that the producers of the TV show originally wanted Kim Hunter to play the part of "Kira" (please ) Galen's ex-girlfriend? It has even been said that Roddy asked her personally to re-join him for the show. But Kim could not be coaxed back into wearing that makeup again.

Every time I watch that episode I keep wondering what it would have been like to see Roddy and Kim re-united as chimps... what a missed opportunity!

Wow. I didn't know that. I remember reading something about her having really bad skin problems during/after Escape, so maybe that's why she refused. I would have loved to have seen them together again, though. She and Roddy together again would have made a spectacular episode, probably would have been one of my favorites had they done one.

I always wondered if Kim was asked to be in the series. Roddy stated that he had his agent ask the producers if he could be in it (which wasn't good for his paycheck). I do remember an interview with Kim where she stated she was happy they killed her character in the third film and was not interested in doing anymore.

There is one particular story from Kim in the Planet of the Apes Revisited book concerning a particular skin problem she had; "They built me a champagne glass with a lip on it so that I could somehow control the liquid going into my mouth and not screwing up the appliances. But it still did, so they had to constantly come back and reglue me because it would break away... And I ended up with great sores because of the constant having to reglue. We were having one helluva time with that for a few days afterwards. They had me on antibiotics, creams, and everything else. They had to cut away some of the appliance and shoot around it for a few days afterwards."

"The Surgeon" is one of my favorite episodes. I never knew that they wanted Kim Hunter to play Kira. That would have been great. I also have always thought that Kira was upset about the break up also Jess. It has always been my opinion that Galen and Kira were still an item when he became a fugitive. To me, that is why she is so upset. Remember when Galen and Burke were on the side of the space ship when Alan was after the flight disc. Galen was upset and expressed to Pete that he had friends and family that he left behind also. I always thought of Kira when Galen was expressing his feelings. I just always figured that she and Galen were still an item when he got framed for the murder of the gorillla at the jail and went on the run with mere humans.
