Basically watched the first 9 minutes of ANH quite a few times, took some measurements and pretty close to figuring out the correct scaled dimensions.

As a test, a rough foam model was cut with a 12" Battle Droid used for scale purposes. :)

Still want to do more research and figure out what materials work best for this type project (styrene?) before actually building so any and all advice is much welcomed!

nurse I I love a good dio!! this is one of my favs!! I think the Death Star Swing by Darth Impoor are musts!!
As soon as I can finish up some others this is at the top of my list for sure!! Excellent and if there is any thing I can do to help please just ask.

:)

I look forward to seeing how this unfolds. I personally would use plasti card seeing it's not going to be a really huge base.

Ron

My idea is to build one section of corridor at a time and make them all connectable in the end. :thud:

Does that change the opinion of what material to build it out of?

Building sections at a time is a brilliant idea, that way it make the project more manageable and less stressful. The worse part I find about building or customising is not being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. So many amazing projects get started but after a while they fade and eventually die :( so the section idea is brilliant.

As for materials, ply wood is cheap and verybversitile as is mdf. I think that what ever you choose will work. You will make it work, that's the fun of it all.

I'm trying to make it look exactly like the set and that looks to be made of PVC or something similar so I'm leaning towards styrene or plasticard as Ron suggested as it looks very similar. Question on styrene is does it take gloss paint very well? These materials are all new to me...lol

And just found out that plasticard and styrene are the same...wow

Styrene is fab, I love it but it's really expensive in the uk. As for painting over the top, he'll yeah, any car primer spray will do the job. I have just finished a section of the corridor from the deathstar and just used grey primmer.. Love it

Me thinks this is gonna be pretty sweet!!

I tried this in 3 3/4" and it blew chunks. Props to you for giving it a go.

Seems to be very reasonable here in the states so that very well may be the way to go.

One part I'm not too sure about is the floor panels of the corridor--in particular the color. I think online (maybe the SW databank) said it had black flooring but the movie looks more of a grayish tone. Anyone have a definitive answer on the color?

Everything I have ever seen including the films ( ANH & ROTS) and even small dioramas and full size recreations of the hallway like the one they put up at conventions like Celebration and such, its always gray with dark gray lines in between the floor panels.

Here is an image of the recreation of the hallway that travels around. There is some weirdness in the floor and door near the far end of the corridor because I was still in the process of editing out R2D2 and C3PO and their shadows, but its still good reference. I had to shrink it down to to about 20% its original size to up load it, but if you want the full size image just let me know, its 2450 x 1600 pixels.

I just wonder if it looks grey because of the reflection of the light and it's actually black.

I found what I was reading earlier:

Under "design": https://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tantive_IV

"The corridors of the Tantive IV had mostly pristine bright white walls and black metal floors."

I know anything wiki isn't definitive but does make me want to really dig so I can do it right.

In most pictures like the one they have there on that site of the control panels, the floor never seem shiny enough to very reflective, but on the table there is a black glossy section next to a flat gray section.

In the picture below the floor is gray and if the floors were reflecting the wall colors the floor should look black in front of Vader, but it doesn't,and you can also see the dark gray lines on the floor also. Every toy, collectible item, video game, Lego sets or anything else I have seen, depicting the Tantive has had gray floors, even that Sideshow statue of Vader choking Antilles has the floor as gray. So I would have to assume that is the proper color.

Anyhow its really a matter of personal preference, but the black floor info on there could date back to people watching crappy over watched and abused VHS copies of the movies in the 80's and 90's. :lol

Anyhow just trying to help. :)

I appreciate it! I'm somewhat of a perfectionist (yeah, one of those...lol) and since the floor will probably be the first or last thing built (haven't decided that yet), it's getting a special emphasis...lol

Sounds a little like the healthy debate some of us had on my Detention Block dio floor-red grating or black. In the end though, I won:lol

I'm with Viv. I believe the floor is gray, not only by appearance but as he mentioned, there are many products that depict the floor as gray. You gotta think they have access to some official source material. Besides, once you have dead bodies, door debris all over, and smoke (you'll be using real smoke right?) who will see the floor anyway?:lol

LOL, yeah gonna go for real smoke. Now the question is what shade of gray...:gah:

Have to do a battle damaged door too! :)
