Re: The Man of Steel

For me the Batman theme is this, from the 40 second mark

It appears earlier in TDK in the 'Batpod release' scene but it kinda falls away again (0:40 - 1:00 in the below clip); indicating that Batman is still not completely there yet. Once he decides to take the fall for Dent, that's when he becomes fully formed.

Yeah, I agree. If Zimmer did create a theme (which according to interviews with him, he hasn't) then for me, it's that.

It originated from Barbastella in the original Batman Begins soundtrack when Bruce Wayne returns to the well he fell into as a child and goes into the Batcave. The theme starts as the bats surround them and he overcomes his fear by becoming one with them. It's one of my favorite scenes in any of the Batman films. Period.

But still, the music is all over the place. It's not used when Batman arrives in the garage scene, or when he appears to the LOS or during any "Batman moments", so it really isn't his theme as it as just a theme. This is just one example too. Many of the cues for Harvey Dent are taken straight from Batman Begins and aren't new once so ever. There's a great piece in the actual soundtrack created by James Newton Howard (let's remember that not all of this is Zimmer either, it took both of them) that's not featured in the film for Dent. It's full of this sense of American ideal and patriotism that was ultimately not included.

There's also that great scene with Bruce preparing to be Batman in Begins (making the batarangs, painting the suit, etc.) with the "becoming Batman theme" that's just recycled in TDK for going after Lau. There are many instances of this recycling and it can't just be for a mirroring of scores. It's just reusing.

Re: The Man of Steel

'A Watchful Guardian' is probably my favourite track on TDK. That of course is the last piece of music before and during the end credits. 'Buyer Beware' has Batman's entrance in TDK which I like.

Alright no more sarcasm (for a-dev's sake)..

In my defence I did suspect it was sarcasm initially. Then your follow up response sounded like you sound when you're being serious yet you were saying things that seemed inconsistent with what I knew about you...so I still suspected but...I know, I know. In those situations you're supposed to just run with the joke.

QUIT RUINING IT!

:lol

Smilies and emoticons are a sarcasm killer. So, uh, no. I mean yes. I don't know.

John Williams sucks.

Re: The Man of Steel

Hans Zimmer is a great composer but has he scored any memorable themes? Off the top of my head I feel like Travolta's theme from Broken Arrow might be his coolest (which was randomly copied for Dewey in Scream 2.) :lol

Crimson Tide was good but not really "transcedent" like so many from Williams.

I do like some of his work.

Crimson Tide
The Ring
Gladiator
Inception
TDK
and "The Kraken" from Pirates 2.

I would not put him over Goldsmith or Williams.

Funny how this film thread has become a score thread :slap

The Superman theme is one of the best ever made. The score for the new flick is important.

2:13 - 3:30 really needs to show up in TDKR.

Interesting:

slashfilm said:
Heard rumblings from multiple people today that WB/Nolan aren't happy with early cuts of Snyder's Man of Steel.

slashfilm said:
I know Snyder was given free rein due to Nolan producing. first draft of the script was said to be amazing.
