A MUST SEE!!!! Definitely way better than I expected.

This is the best movie I have seen this year so far.

Will probably to and see it again in the theater!!!

I can't believe a health nut like you would watch such an offensive movie. :lol

HOLY CRAP, what an amazing movie. Went to the focus group discussion after the film and nobody had ANYTHING bad to say about it. Even now, I'm trying to think of something I didn't like about it and I can't think of anything.

Everything about the film was perfect and Hit Girl stole the entire movie. Every scene she was in was pure gold. Had a perfect blend of comedy, action, and didn't take itself too seriously.

Don't know if it was just a filler score, but they had the Superman and Batman themes intermittingly throughout the film and they were hilarious. If ever there was a film where they should keep the filler score, it would be this one.

Even though most of the effects weren't finished (there weren't a lot fo begin with, most of it was done on wires), the scenes that were done like comics weren't completely done either, the movie was great and I can't wait to see it completed in theaters.

So I'm thinking about seeing it again to see if they changed anything....Question to those who have seen it: did they have the superman/batman scores in the final product or did they take those out??

Didn't catch any Superman/Batman music, but it could have been there and I am not sure I would have known! LOL! I just got back from seeing it, and had to come in here and say, GO!
Do not wait, do not hesitate! GO!
It is HILARIOUS! All the way through. That I didn't expect. I thought the action might be, or the bits with just Hit Girl, but I liked everyone in it. The bit players rocked. The dialogue was great, and the pacing kept me in stitches. Cage rocked as always to me, but it was the Kick Ass guy, who carried it better than I thought he could, and the villain(s), primarily Mark Strong, who kept me laughing. As did his kid, and of course, the wonder that is little Chloe Moretz, as Hit Girl, that RULES THIS MOVIE! What an out of nowhere role and break! She kicks....ASS!!!
See it. Seriously. Four stars, two thumbs up, all that crap! Just GO!

Just got back. The lead's performance was good, but Jesus Christ was the script dumb as a sack of hammers.

Why haven't I put you on ignore yet???:confused::confused:

Are you that insecure a differing opinion on a movie drives you to an ignore list?

The problem is the movie is either a satire or a straightforward action flick. If it's the former, the script collapses because it becomes what it's satirizing. If it's the latter, it's ultimately just the latest torture porn. Please tell me what exactly is served by having an 11-year-old girl watch her father burn alive. What clever thing is being said there, exactly?

There are "spoiler" tags in the options, you may want to try to use them.

Whatever happened to just having fun at a movie? Did you really believe a movie called "KICK ASS" was going to have a script that was deserving of an Oscar for "best written movie" or whatever? All I know is I laughed my ass off and the audience enjoyed the hell out of it, enough to be standing and clapping at the end of the flick. I plan on seeing it a second time this weekend.

You're presenting a false dichotomy. But if the scene I described makes you laugh your ass off, I guess scripting is the least of our issues.

 :party pooper:

"false dichotomy" - WTF is that? seriously, I have no clue, please provide a dictionary and/or english translator in our future discussions, because I really have no idea what the hell you are talking about 95% of the time. Or just stick to the political/God threads.

Saw this earlier today. I don't really know what to think. I enjoyed it, but I may have had my expectations too high. Good film with some great action and laughs, but at the end, I just felt very "meh" about it.

Sadly, that can happen. With the majority of people on here (myself included) exclaiming what a great movie it is, any the innocent bystanders not knowing anything behind the comic storyline may go into it expecting too much. Happened to me plenty of times on other films.

I went into this film a little biased, having seen a couple of clips at SDCC, which I loved, so I had high expectations, but the movie still met them completely.

But I know what you're saying. So if anyone expects this to be the next spiderman/batman/high-budget film... don't. Just enjoy it for the mostly original and amusing and completely unserious film that it was meant to be.

Totally agree with you Mesa.. I Loved the movie I thought it was awesome... I give it a 10/10..

Yeah, never read the comic so didn't really know the story. From watching the trailers, I knew what type of a film it was and I can say I knew it wasn't going to be the next huge, high-budget film. It was enjoyable and I'll most likely buy the Blu-Ray, but I didn't love it.

I have no intention of watching "Kick Ass" but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong about a film becoming what it satirizes. Both "Scream" and "Galaxy Quest" did a fine job of satirizing a genre while also following the rules of the very genres they were poking fun at.

I'm sorry I know what words mean. You presented a false either/or scenario: scripts are must either be worthy of an Oscar or dumb as a sack of hammers. This is a brilliant defense for things like Transformers 2 but leaves out other possibilities - namely, that scripts can also be quite good without being Oscar calibre. Popcorn movie examples would be things like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Up. I expected more from Kick-Ass because the first act was quite good, and had the promise of an interesting satire. Unfortunately, the film degenerates after the brilliant scene of Kick-Ass to become the thing it's satirizing. It winds up not being about anything and becomes a beautifully shot installment of torture porn. And the Interent reaction to Hit Girl is ... interesting.

I don't think Scream does satirize the horror genre, actually. It's a very knowing film, but that's not the same thing. Galaxy Quest is actually taking on something else than "sci-fi action flick" as well (the key detail is it's about Shatner, not Kirk). GQ carries its riff until the end of the flick. Kick-Ass abandons its after the first act and just becomes a straightforward superhero flick without subtext - unless it's a massive prank pulled on the audiencen to see who thinks Hit Girl is "cool."

Now maybe Kick-Ass doesn't need to have a subtext or be about anything, and it was wrong of me to expect more from the first act (we never even see his GF again after the climax FFS). In that case, it just becomes torture porn straight up, a Hostel for the geek crowd. Isn't it cool to watch a kid watch her dad burn alive and respond with a quip? Isn't it rad to see an adult pummel a child? Isn't it a fun time to see people realistically torn apart in a superhero movie?

And that's why I didn't like it, even though it had some nice sequences and some great performances. Because the script isn't half as smart as Mark Millar probably thinks it is, and because without a smart script we're left with a lot of ugliness that doesn't actually mean anything. It's not saying anything.

But different strokes for different folks. I'm sure it'll sell a lot of Blu-rays.

I think Scream's comedic deconstruction of slasher flicks falls under the umbrella of satire, but that's beside the point. I can't imagine enjoying Kick Ass if it features those elements. It certainly does appear to have an enthusiastic target audience, however.

How old are the kids in the movie? 12?
