Yes we did. Anakin is Jesus in SW. You had to show him before maturity to really convey how important he was.

No we did not need to see him as a kid. It may have seemed like a good idea in theory, however it meant that by the time Hayden showed up in Episode 2 he was essentially a completely different character, meaning we as the audience are really meeting him for the first time at that point and any tiny development he went through in Episode 1 was a waste of time.

Not to mention kids in a movie like this are annoying and don't really serve much of a purpose when most of the plot is beyond their control or understanding.

I disagree. To emphasize the importance of "The Chosen One" we had to see him at his most innocent. The Jedi, despite having great doubts, don't fear the boy. Anakin's [necessary] fall begins with his separation from Shmi. Yoda sees it but nobody listened.

With Episode II we get the next step towards the Dark Side in his mother's death (fear leads to anger). Once again, Yoda and the others know something's up but they trust the Prophecy.

Had Anakin left Shmi at 18, things would have turned out quite differently (and the Jedi would have never trained him).

300 units of a limited-release figure will be sold on Force Friday starting at MIDNIGHT by HT in HK (event starting at 10:30 PM on Sep 3rd HK time):

300 is a silly low number, hopefully Sideshow gets another 1,000! Of course, this could just be a first-run release of a figure that will be repackaged later.
