are 10 rounders ok to use with it?

Should be (I hope so!). I believe what I got was just a standard single-stacked.

My dream 1911, that I hope to afford someday, is the Springfield Operator. Novak sights, blued with a threaded tip, mean looking tail, etc., etc.

Next firearm will likely be a Mossberg Cruiser, though. I tend to buy what I know has a practical use - but maybe after a shotgun I might try for a Thompson or an Uzi (both of which are fun as hell to shoot).

Congrats man. I want a 1911 too after I get a HK USP .45. Not sure which 1911 yet...

It's been 2 weeks since I put a deposit down for my M4 and it still hasn't come in.

A Large Caliber Revolver. There are FEW handguns as intimidating. Atleast a 38, or larger. i'd recomend a 357, as it's a good gun.

One thing that makes a revolver MORE frightening than an automatic pistol, is that the person that it is being pointed at is able to actually SEE the ammunition loaded into the gun's revolving cylinder. There is no question that the gun is loaded.

In addition, a revolver is generaly a HEAVY handgun. they FEEL powerful, and give the user a much faster respect for what it can do.

Lastly, a revolver has more limited ammo than an automatic pistol, as such, you're less likely to be careless with your shots. GREAT starter gun.

If you MUSt get an automatic pistol, at the very least, AVOID a berretta 92fs, or any variant thereof. The gun is garbage, jams frequently, and needs ALOT of maintenance. NOT a good gun for a beginner.

S & W 500. the very sight of it will make most burglars crap themselves. also, with that gun you don't even need to get out of bed because you can just shoot through the walls.

Not necessarily the cheapest way to go but I doubt too many burglars would want to stand their ground against any handgun with a laser sight.

Have you ruled out shotguns? They are #1 for home defense, much easier to use in an emergency life threatening situation than a handgun. If that's your main objective, home defense, just go out and get a basic 12 guage shotgun and some 00 buck.
