Entire post quoted. You may want to check into the XD-45. I carry the XD-9 Subcompact for concealability and keep my XD-45 locked up for home use. Due to it being a console gun for you concealability shouldn't be an issue. Forgive my memory but the XD-45 is either 13+1 or 12+1 of awesome knock down power. IMHO they are very accurate, and fit my hand better then any handgun I've handled.

+1. i owned one of the XD-40 when they first came out and the XD pistols are amazing for what you pay. i just wish i didn't give it to my brother. he keeps it with him (stationed in Korea) while he's on patrol as he feels its much more reliable than the beat up beretta 92f series that is issued. i say look into an XD pistol because springfield usually has some kind of deal/rebate listed on their website that will get you free extra magazines (my incentive for purchase) or a holster.

excellent! another one has converted to the dark side! :emperor :D

yeah, the 5ive 7even pistol makes a nice backup sidearm to a PS90 or AR57 which use 50 round magazines. :D

i don't have a scope yet for my Socom 16. i added an ARMS mount so i could put a scope closer to my eyes but i think i'm going to take it off and eventually get an Aimpoint comp4s for it. the Leupold scope i initially bought for it needed a closer eye relief. i ended up using it for my HK USC rifle instead.

the Socom II was the one i wanted but it was always out of stock. i ended up settling for the 16. one thing you should know is that the rails make the rifle even heavier. 9.3lbs vs 10.5lbs! without magazine weight!

if you don't mind the extra weight then the extended rails definitely make it easier to choose optics that require closer eye relief. i'm happy with my purchase but sort of regret not getting the Socom II. it's a bench gun for me so carry weight wouldn't be an issue and i would also add a bipod.

i rented one of these at my local range. its not as powerful as a .45, but still a very accurate pistol that can do damage.

~~and i want to make it known that i hold you responsible for my latest lust. after seeing your picture it re-kindled my interest in picking up a Socom 16. i've been searching around for one all week and i'm certain i'll pick one up in the next month or so. do you currently have any optics for it??? i was thinking about getting an aimpoint M2 or a ACOG 3x for it. and what are your thoughts on the Socom 2 with the rails on it?? too much?? not worth it???

i'm not sure if Aimpoint includes hoods. my buddy's Trijicon Reflex sight didn't come with any. you can however get an anti-reflective device since the front lens opening is threaded for addition of a "killflash" device.

yup, it also had the picatinny mount for it.

so i went to my local gunstore /range today to check out the prices on the Socom 16 and SocomII. their prices seem really high -- the Socom 16 was $1900 and the Socom II was $2400. is this the normal pricing on these rifles or can i find them cheaper online / gun show??

i paid $1900 for my Socom 16 last Feb so that sounds about right. the price for the II seems a bit high. i wouldn't pay that much for it. demand has always been high on Springfield M1A's though.

ok, i just thought that the Socom 16 was a little high. i really don't care for the Rails on it, but i would like the option of attaching a Bipod at some point. are there any options out there any 3rd party rail systems for the Socom 16??

I also went to another gunshop today, I had the chance to check out the Socom 16, they had one with a custom pistol grip and adjustable stock. I was tempted to pick it up and its lighter than I thought. But with the add ons he was asking for $2800. Without the add ons it would be $2100. At first I wanted the Socom II but with price and weight difference and the only thing I would do is add a sight. I think the Socom 16 would be fine for me.

BTW, is it just me? But all the gunshops I go they are buttheads.

lol. you're not the only one. i just don't have the time to buddy up with the guys at the stores. it's sort of hit or miss too. i've met some really cool sales guys but a few less than stellar customer service peeps. it's all online for me. :chew

no, 90% of the people working in gunshops are clowns. i hope i don't offend anyone with this, but they are usually the dumb rednecks that are promoting the NRA and are condescending to people that dont know as much about guns as they do because they spend more time cleaning their guns than they do their teeth.
it's all online for me. :chew
how does this work?? don't you have to pay transfer fees to a FFL?? i've been looking on gunbroker.com but all the sellers have different sales requirements that it almost doesn't seem worth it.

i know an FFL guy who i go through for online purchases. i found out about him when i attended a local gun show. he's very easy to deal with too. the firearm is shipped directly to him. i just drive to his home to do the paperwork/DROS, wait 10 days, and :gun

transfer fee is $70 + $35 for DROS. no CA sales tax since i buy out of state. no hassle. very easy!

They should at least be customer friendly, plus that is the only way I can transfer the fire arm because of them being a FFL dealer.

They also make you feel dumb, makes me don't want to ask them another question.:monkey2:rolleyes:

I've been to two shops in my life... one was somewhat hard to deal with, They looked and treated me like I was an idiot for being new to fire arms. Then I went to Buds (I live near them) They are mostly retired cops or part timers and treated me with respect and gave a lot of info.

I just put a STAG ARMS AR-15 Model 2 on layaway. I cannot wait to have an AR-15 again!!!!

I bought a Springfield Armory G.I. 1911 on Friday. I've got a 10 round mag in the mail, too. I wanted a 15, but I've grown to distrust most extended magazines... Not sure I want to gamble having a jam if I'm ever in a jam.

DAMN this 1911 is sweet, though.

Congrats man. I want a 1911 too after I get a HK USP .45. Not sure which 1911 yet...

It's been 2 weeks since I put a deposit down for my M4 and it still hasn't come in.:banghead

very sweet! i'm checking out a Springfield 1911 right now. it says it takes 7+1 mags. are 10 rounders ok to use with it? it's a .45ACP. yeah, i hear ya on extended magazines. i think 10 would be the most i'd go for on a .45. i have a feeling it won't take 10 since it's most likely single stacked unless it extends at the bottom which i don't want. my Sig P220 takes 10's that extends an inch from the bottom but i don't mind the length on it. it actually feels comfortable.
