I'm currently replaying (finishing off Fallout 3) for trophies and the one thing that I can't stand about the game is how hard it is to find your way around interior and exterior locations. You wander around inside a building and then it takes twice as long to find your way out. You try and set a map marker and it doesn't work because it draws a straight line from your current position to the marker, and ignores walls. On top of that it treats all the different levels of a building as one level and doesn't represent basement levels, ground floors, 2nd floor, etc. You follow your marker to the exit, and you're at the point, but you don't know whether you need to go up a level or down a level, or what the heck is going on.

If they made a more accurate "local map" or mini-map, whatever they're going to call it, I might get this game. . . otherwise forget it. From what I've seen the game is just another expansion to Fallout 3, if they haven't improved the mechanics then there isn't much point to purchase.

Some buildings did have a lot of winding corridors...I would spend an hour in some buildings, trying to look in every nook and drawer.

The worst thing about FO3 GOTY edition was Mothership Zeta, oh mmm geee, was that painful to finish. So monotonous...at times the game could grate on my nerves.

Oh definitely, Zeta was . . .dare I say it, not even worth it. I remember being stuck in there for hours, trying to find my way out. I think it's safe to say I spent over 3 hours trying to find my way out. I know I quit halfway through because it was so frustrating, thinking I could come back and then magically find my way out and have a dumb "Oh duh, there's the door" moment but it never came and I spent another hour trying to find my way out.

Figured I'd give this thread a bump since the game is coming out on Tuesday. I loved Fallout 3 and ever since this game was announced Ive been going crazy waiting for it to come out. I read that Area 51 is going to be in it, hope that is true . I loved pretty much everything about Fallout 3 so I hope that they didnt change any of the good stuff about it and maybe added some cool features.

I'm stressing this game. With how into F3 I got, and how much time that took up, I need to plan when I can give NV the time it will deserve.

The couple hours a week I've been playing games a week just won't cut it. Hopefully I come down with mono.

I couldn't rent a game like fallout. Unless I had unlimited time just as I was getting into it I'd probably have to send it back.

It was advertised in Sunday's ad that you get a $10 GC and a strategy guide when you purchase from them on Tues.

I don't believe the strategy guide they are including is anything to get excited about because I'm betting it's like the small one that a lot of retailers gave away with the first game. That one had very little info in it and was basically a "Welcome to Fallout" pamphlet.

Does anyone really buy strategy guides anymore anyways? :dunno

If it is anything like Fallout 3...no it doesn't.
From everything Ive read and seen about this follow up, it doesnt look like it brings anything substantially new or innovative to the gaming table.
As someone who played the hell out of the last one and all the dlc, Im about Super mutant and Rad scorpioned out.
Knowing Bethesda It'll need a few patches right outta the gate.
The graphics engine looks exactly the same which is a big minus for me knowing what the 360 is capable of and also knowing that Bethesda acquired id in the interim since the last Fallout.
(actually the engine looks like the same as the one Oblivion utilized. Good for a couple of years ago.)
The story looks like another faction rehash: Exchange Repub of new Calif for the Bros of Steel.

This game isnt looking like its 60 buck price tag to me.

I played the last one when it came out. Finished the main quest and I recognize that it was a great game and all, but I don't really want to play another game with basically the same engine.

I'll just hold out for Fallout 4 :D

Isn't this game developed by someone else and just produced by Bethesda?

Company integration takes a hell of a lot longer. Just because they acquired Id doesn't mean they can instantly use their stuff especially since it was a different company working on Vegas and they were probably already developing with the current SDK and engine.

At least with Reach you have a HUGE multiplayer component to compliment a well done (imo) and sizable 4 person co op campaign.
(...with improved graphics over the last installment :monkey3)
